laserblazer Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 Got in this morning and no water supply. Severn-Trent said it would be at least 4 hours so we set the "snowline" going. Water came back on at around 8am so we have no kids and water to make tea and flush the loos.

kylewilliamson Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 It's a health and safety thing - not only is the dump likely to happen. but in effect it means that people wouldnt be able to wash thier hands etc - canteen couldnt open because food couldnt be prepared etc. Theres a massive risk of the spread of infection.

Valid point though, just not applicable to this guy.

I think she got the message.... :-)
Halfmad Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 This school has closed for one day since it opened 40 years ago and that was due to 4ft of snow blocking the main roads back in the 80s. It's been open even when there's been no water, heating, power etc. I've no idea how they get away with it but they are never challenged.
pmassingham Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 Are we all completely barmy! It is so hot in the classrooms with the newly installed bolier and radiators that the doors and windows have to be opened. Is it a H & S issue to turn the b****y radiators down!!!!

I think she got the message.... :-) i'd never have the cojones to say that!! Never been closed since I have worked here...although everytime there is a threat of snow, everyone gets their hopes up!!
TechMonkey Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 Well the main water supply and taps are in the server room but I guess it might be obvious if something happened to them or somehow got turned off. We had a snow day last winter as it was really icy and dangerous for people coming in (I mean cars going sideways at low speed dangerous) but then the sun came out and it all disappeared so seemed really pointless. Plus the closure was issued 10 mins after I arrived at school even after phoning in to check as trains and busses were being cancelled left right and center. Hopeful for this year
