[sims] SIMS - Reporting on added attendance codes

One of my Schools have asked me to look at the possibility of adding in attendance codes for their lessons:

• 1 - Excellent Effort in Lesson
  
• 2 - Fair Effort in lesson
  
• 3 - Poor Effort in Lesson
  

I know this is possible in setups and they can be assigned to /\ marks so attendance percentages not affected.

My issue is then with reporting this information - when I try and run reports on codes on my test data I can't see these codes? using group reports by code etc.

Has anybody else seen a system of using bespoke codes - any help will be appreciated

Was under the impression attendance codes where legal DfE codes and are locked. Wouldn't this be a behaviour mark rather then attendance?

We've added a couple of codes, K for no PE kit, for example. When you create them you have to assign them as an alias to one of the "legal" codes. We use them in Lesson Monitor and when P4 is used to populate the PM session code SIMS translates from our code to the "legal" one.

 

I've not had a problem using the reporting system to analyse them, although you will only see them in lesson marks NOT in session marks.

 

However, as @matt40k says, these seem more appropriate to behaviour marks rather than attendance.

It's not something I'd recommend. Mixing information in data always complicates the solution. Attendance is attendance, effort is effort.

 

Additionally you can only assess effort at the end of the lesson not the start and the whole point of recording lesson attendance is to act on absence immediately.

Definitely agree this is something to log with Behaviour - the right-click names thing in lesson monitor makes it easy

 

You can use your own custom codes for lesson, not session, marks - this doesn't affect any statutory returns. Sims maps them using the 'statistical meaning' field.

They show in things like "Individual Register Report" where the report is looking at LESSONS not just SESSIONS

 

I also use bespoke reports to analyse them too.
