Can RM CC4 support Windows Tablets

Hi There!

 

We're currently running on a CC4 Network here and we're considering our options.

Just wondering if CC4 is able to manage Windows tablets and if they do, to what extent?

Which version of CC4?

 

There was an update for Windows 8 support, so I'm guessing you'd need that before you start even thinking of sticking tablets on the network.

 

There's a few options in the registry settings for Windows 8, but for the most part, it treats them like regular machines.

Hi Geraint There is a school (in wales) that I know of running windows 8 tabs with cc4 - I can PM you the name if you like. So it can be done!

Yes it can be done, but I am far from impressed with the RM take on Windows 8.1. My two major issues are:

 

1. Instead of launching the "metro" screen you get the all applications one instead. If you have a lot of software installed this list is massive!

2. To log out you have to go into the all applications menu and then into the "metro" menu (or press start twice), click the username in the top right and then logout. It is far from intuitive.

Agree with both these points, but other than that it works fairly well.

 

Its a purchase update from RM, install it along with all 8.1 bits and pieces, update your RMMC and the registry policies / user types and install another couple of smaller updates which deal with the V3 profiles and that was pretty much it.

 

Not sure if its still an issue but when students or staff use 8.1 for the first time they get a black screen which lasts for about 20-30 seconds whcih is when the usual welcome to windows for the first time blerb shows - that was my biggest pain, as people thing the tablet has crashed or failed and start turning it off instead of being patient.

I would like to add that if you use RM Network Recycle Bin you will need to be running version 2.84: DWN3878446

 

And if running RM Virus Protect you need to be running version 6.2: DWN3885210

We have that here too Max. I did a bit of digging online here and found that its Microsoft's fault not RM's - the delay before the metro start screen loads is just where startup programs kick in. Thought it seems to be better for us on Win8.1 than it was on Win8.
