jinnantonnixx Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 (edited) This article made me smile. http://waitbutwhy.com/2013/07/7-ways-to-be-insufferable-on-facebook.html I see a lot of these two 'categories' 1a) The "I'm Living Quite the Life" Brag 2) The Cryptic Cliffhanger SHARE IF YOU AGREE!!! witch Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 (edited) Hmmm Interesting sentence here: "the only people it's okay to brag to in life are your close friends, significant other, and family members" This pretty much identifies who I am friends with on Facebook This seems to apply to people who have hundreds of Facebook friends who are really just vague acquaintances Edited June 27, 2014 by witch 1
sonofsanta Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 Likewise - usually from family Sod trees falling in empty forests: if something happens and wasn't posted to Facebook, did it actually happen? 1

You one crazy gal. You must have snubbed the friend requests from people you once bumped into 14 years ago at the newsagent. Brutal. Edited June 27, 2014 by jinnantonnixx
AMLinington Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 LOL I think insufferability is a matter of perspective - for example, I can't stand pictures of babies covered with food. It makes me physically gag. Yet people insist that posting 9 pictures an hour of their child covered in unidentifiable gloop is 'cute'. Or this 'cake smashing' trend that seems to have appeared where people PAY photographers to take photos of their babies in cute outfits smothered in smashed cake. Excuse me while I go vomit. That being said, when you're struggling to have a baby yourself, your feed is FULL of the pregnancy announcements, the scan pictures, the new baby pics, the happy grandparents. It's a knife to the heart every time. I'm very quick to unfollow these types of people:
witch Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 Wait.... you mean.... your friends on Facebook are.... what.... actual 'friends'? You one crazy gal. Well - most of them. I use Facebook to keep up with friends and family around the world.
AMLinington Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 (edited) Well - most of them. I use Facebook to keep up with friends and family around the world. Some of the worst offenders on my feed are close friends or family. I got so sick of cousin Sue's sanctimonious finger wagging that I unfriended and blocked her. I'm sure next time I see her at a family event I'll get the usual whiny interrogation. So many of my close friends have had babies/are pregnant that it's a minefield for me. I want to install that 'get rid of baby pictures' app but I can't because I need to keep up to date on these people otherwise it makes things awkward. We're go-to-each-others-houses-and-socialise friends with a professional photographer and she's always posting promos for her baby cake smashing thing. Ack. My facebook posts are usually cat pictures (my own cat), Rabbit pics (my own Rabbits) or the results of various crafting efforts with links to the pinterest pins as I know most of my friends and family are into that sort of stuff too and I like to share good ideas when I find them. Ironically I find the 'Share this post to raise awareness/if you agree/disagree with something' posts to be annoying too. I'll form my own opinions and keep them to myself thanks. It's a knife to the heart every time. This... so much this. I had someone confess a pregnancy early to me last week. Couldn't stop thinking about it the entire time we were together. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy for them, but a part of you is like... why can't I do that? 1
mats Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 If you looked at my faceache page you'd probably conclude that I died somewhere around 2006 but nobody noticed.

[Thanks for ruining a good character 'Other M'...]
sonofsanta Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 @Joanne & @AMLightfoot - it took us a year to fall with our first*, so I have some small inkling of what you're facing and it was awful even in that year. You can't help but take it personally, and it's all but impossible to hang in there. But don't ever lose heart - my cousin and his missus have just fallen after seven rounds of IVF, and nearly a decade of trying. I don't know about good things coming to those who wait, but they do seem to come to those who deserve. *she found out on the very morning I was driving into hospital to, er, fill a pot again for further tests... didn't bloody tell me till after though, did she, oh no.
hardtailstar Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 My facebook posts are usually cat pictures (my own cat), Rabbit pics (my own Rabbits) This is me! One thing I hate about BookFace is that some people post pictures of babies every minute of the day and say how beautiful they are...... well some are not! which makes me think of this song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HpWB_ZiFy-Q

Then on the flipside you have others who 'accidentally' got pregnant and moan about it, or find out they're having a Boy when they wanted a Girl and inside you're like 'I'VE BEEN TRYING FOR TWO YEARS YOU UNGRATEFUL B***H, HOW DO YOU JUST ACCIDENTALLY RANDOMLY GET PREGNANT!!!!' or 'I'd settle for ANY baby right now - Boy or Girl'. Tesla Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 (edited) My only facebook posts now days are generally about football, and on the odd occasion sickipedia jokes.... EDIT: anyone else getting a blank page when they send their post???? Edited June 27, 2014 by Tesla

I'll form my own opinions and keep them to myself thanks. I loathe these too. Worst offenders are an aunt and the in-laws. Both difficult to block. My friend list is like witch 's - close friends and family that I don't see often

Been trying for 3. Currently in the process of testing. I don't want to do IVF though... I'd rather adopt and keep my rockin' hot bod
SiliconAlley_Sam Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 (edited) I love Facebook. I love that it enables me and boyfriend to keep in touch with friends and family and let them know what we're doing and keep up with what they're doing. No one has the ability to manually keep in touch with everyone they would like to as often as they'd to. We do our very best to see family/friends on both sides as often as we can but we both work full-time and there's only so much you can cram into the weekends and with friends/family all over the show, it's such a good way of keeping in touch, sharing stuff that's going on with you. Boyfriend's best friend is training to be a ranger out in South Africa - time difference, dodgy connection etc. means that we would hardly have been able to speak to him for the last year. Facebook has enabled us to keep track of where he's at and for him to see what's going on with us. If you have people on your newsfeed and you don't care about what they have to say, what holiday they've been on, if they've got a job they love, if they're happy etc. then it's your own fault for having them there in the first place! Edit: I can imagine all the baby pictures/pregnancy announcements are hard when you're in the process of trying, though. Edited June 27, 2014 by SiliconAlley_Sam 1
Smee Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 (edited) People get quite "funny" with me when I won't fb "friend" them. Staff don't like it, but thats their problem not mine. I am quite selective as two of my boys are in the armed forces and I don't want the world and his wife knowing where they are posted or when they are travelling. But I have also unfriended my father in law as he doesn't seem to be able to hold his tongue when online and forgets (not that he had many) his social graces!!! He also believes EVERYTHING that he sees on Fb. I've also unfriended one family member who insists on "liking" everything. In fact my boys and I had a bet on how quickly the phantom liker took to like different updates, 2.5 seconds won!!lol Most of my photos are rescue dogs, I foster for a rescue, or my own dogs who are particularly stupid Edited June 27, 2014 by Smee terrible spelling!!!!!

No, I imagine she was hedging her bets in case she lost it early on - it's very common so until she reached the 3 month mark I imagine she was just playing it safe. To be fair 'filling a pot' is considerably less unpleasant than the stuff us ladies have to go through. We've been trying for nearly 2 years but I don't want IVF because I'm afraid of a) multiple pregnancies and b) As a hormone-related migraine sufferer subjecting myself to the 'omg my brain is exploding' pain is not worth it when there are Cats in the world that need a home. If it turns out we can't have children I shall fill my heart with cats. This is me! One thing I hate about BookFace is that some people post pictures of babies every minute of the day and say how beautiful they are...... well some are not! which makes me think of this song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HpWB_ZiFy-Q LOL Yeah or when someone posts a picture of their baby and all their other friends are calling it a precious angel and a beautiful girl/boy when it looks like this: http://s3.amazonaws.com/theoatmeal-img/blog/million_likes_photos/baby.png One of my FB friends has two children and they haven't exactly been blessed with angelic looks and I think of this every single time I see yet another 'Aren't my children pretty' post from her. 1
AMLinington Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 Oh my god, that is SO FUNNY. HAH! LOL yeah theoatmeal.com illustrated some Facebook photos as part of a book promotion/1 Million Facebook likes and stipulated 'no baby pictures': I illustrated some photos from Facebook - The Oatmeal very funny.
CAM Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 Trashed my profile because I didn't use it and didn't want it. An old girlfriend insisted on it when we were seeing each other which led to many missed 'important' status updates because I never logged into the damn thing. Facebook just creeps me the hell out anyway, especially when you go through your pictures and something just triggers a nasty memory you'd rather forget about.
foofighterjim Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 Those pictures reminded of http://www.fornogoodreasonmovie.com

AMLinington Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 (edited) That is great. Love the ones with the chickens which was "Please can you do a picture for my business" request. Classic! I own a Black Cat so I posted a pic of him to the page hoping he'd get illustrated either as a devil cat or as one of the Bobcats but he didn't get picked Which reminds me actually - another Facebook peeve is the 'Ransom demands' 'If I can reach 1000 likes my parents will buy me a new toy' or 'Something amazing happened. Like this post if you want to know more. If I get enough likes I'll tell the story'. Edited June 27, 2014 by AMLinington
