I have a load of the B590s across 3 schools bought through UK Zones. They worked out cheaper adn are nearly identical as far as I can tell. I do have a B5400 i5 laptop and it's rather nice. However just to warn you, like most laptops nowadays, they do come with a load of bloatware and don't come with Adobe reader installed, but pdf software you have to buy...

Just a word of warning about the B5400s. They have a design fault which means touchpads are very erratic to the point of being unusable. Lenovo will rework them through Medion in Germany, but this process takes about a month. At one school we have more than a 70% failure rate. Very strange that Lenovo are still selling these knowing about the very high failure rate.

A little update... We are finding that the sticky tape solution on the back of the B5400 touchpads (as fitted by Medion/Lenovo) does not fix the problem. We have some schools that are now seeing a 100% failure rate on the touch pad. There are may reports of teachers losing an evening's planning when the touchpad locks up and they don't have access to a mouse and can't remember the keyboard shortcuts.

We have used a large number of B570, B580 and B590 models which have been excellent. The faults with the B5400 have been pretty widely talked about - I can recommend the B590 strongly. With an SSD in they're quick, well built but plasticky, and cheap.

Again, would recommend avoiding the B5400, awful issues with the touchpad and wireless. All of ours have USB wireless adapters and external mice!

I'd seriously recommend speaking to @VeryPC about laptops. I've got one of their Thinbooks here on trial (i5 model) and the pricing is superb. I've also had a couple of the Lenovo B5400 laptops in my hands, as some of our members of staff have bought them.

 

I can't speak on the problems people have mentioned above, but I can say that the build quality is reasonable. The Very-PC one is a little better IMO.

 

One thing to remember is that these are pretty cheap laptops for their spec. When compared to the last generation of laptops we bought (the HP Probook 6570b), the Lenovo seems a bit plasticy and flimsy, but the price difference is considerable - the ProBook was £600+, compared to less than £400 for the Lenovo.

On the Desktop front we bought some Lenovo ThinkCentre Edge 73 SFF PC's for around £244, very good price and haven't had any issues with them. Unsure about the laptops/monitors in terms of the above complaints!

If you wanted laptops of a higher quality for less money, then why not look at my refurbished Thinkpad T420's or Dell E6420's? All under £300 and with excellent warranties
