box_l Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 So I have one school who purchased lots of lovely Philips touchscreen TV monitors to go with their windows PC's. Philips LCD monitor BDL6545AT_00 LCD monitor These have been great with windows. Now, they want to be a Apple Regional Traning Centre, this means that they have bought Macbooks and airs to go in the classrooms. I was not consulted on compatibility before they purchased the Macs. I arrived in the school and was given them and requested to put them on the network. They are bound to AD and map all the required drives so all is good, except for one thing... I can get the screens to work with touch input, but I cannot work out how to calibrate the touch to the displayed image. The issue is that the Macs have a different display ratio to the screen. Windows seems to be able to sort this out with whatever drivers are installed. Does anyone know a way, (preferable free), to calibrate the touch interface? Cheers BoX

box_l Posted June 19, 2014 Author Posted June 19, 2014 Thanks, but I have that already . And, like you say, it's Windows only.
Marci Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 (edited) Would I be correct in assuming you're running mirrored displays so both the Philips and the native screen are enabled? Does the issue present itself when you disable the native screen and run JUST the Philips on it's own at it's native resolution? Another possible would be (convoluted) to run virtualbox with a barebones windows install set to run full screen with the calibration software, do the calibration, then minimise virtualbox and see if it retains the calibration thru to OSX, then close virtualbox entirely and see if it retains, then reboot and see if it retains. If not, you could probably use Automator to run virtualbox to initialise the calibration then hide or quit as required. Do it as a read only image with no net adapter. Edited June 19, 2014 by Marci 1
ovek Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 I do believe the Philips screens aren't compatible with OSX, i'm actually quite surprised it's working at all. You could try and find what touchscreen technology it uses and see if any other screen manufacture use it and support OSX then try there tools but I couldn't even being to tell you where to start. You could also just boot camp them in to Windows but I don't think that really wouldn't go down in a Apple Regional Traning Centre. 1

box_l Posted June 20, 2014 Author Posted June 20, 2014 (edited) Thanks to @Marci and @ovek. @synaesthesia In answer to your your question, I cannot remember but I think so. I just checked on the link I posted and saw this MAC 640 x 480 60 Hz MAC 832 x 624 60 Hz MAC 1152 x 870 60 Hz as supported resolutions. So I will try to work with these for now. I might also try windows on the base machine with OSX in virtualbox on top. Cheers Edited June 20, 2014 by box_l
Marci Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 I'd try the other way round first... OSX host, windows guest. Apple will get shirty if they find you've virtualised OSX on anything but an X-Server iirc!
AntonioRocco Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 @ Marci Apple are clear about what hardware you can use to virtualise OS X that does not contravene their T&Cs. It does not have to the EoL X-Serve hardware nor does it need to be OS X Server software. The only requirement is it must be virtualised on OS X and as any Apple hardware will run OS X then any Apple hardware will do. Antonio Rocco (ACN) 1
Marci Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 Duly noted... Last time I looked was back in X-server's prime!
seawolf Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 Unless those Phillips touchscreen TVs have drivers that can be installed on the Mac or a firmware update to make them compatible, I doubt you are going to get calibration to work. We purchased a Commbox touchscreen last year and calibration was way off with Macs until we contacted them and they sent us the correct drivers/firmware. Everything worked fine then.
ISDN Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 I work with the Philips Touch regularly and they will work if calibrated properly, however will only be single touch.
box_l Posted July 11, 2014 Author Posted July 11, 2014 Good to hear, I am not worried about multiple touch. How do you do the calibrating on a mac?
ISDN Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 You can download it here; https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/103871319/CalibrationUtility-Mac-1.6.4.0.pkg Let me know once you've downloaded it as it's from my personal dropbox. Regards, Lee
box_l Posted July 11, 2014 Author Posted July 11, 2014 downloaded ... thank you!! I will test and respond. BoX
