intranet dns redirect with unique port?

I have a 2008 r2 server that runs two web servers. The websites are targeting little kids (that sounds wildly inappropriate). One uses port 80 and the other uses 8081.

 

I need to make it extremely easy for the kids to access the sites without typing in the full name (almost 20 characters long) on any device while on our network.

 

 

I made a forward lookupzone and cname in dns for the port 80 site, but I have no idea how to do it for the port 8081 site. Any suggestions? Seams like something that should be easy to do without 3rd party software or appliance.

Can the web server be given a second IP address? If so use binding in IIS to bind a certain port to the nic.

 

Then use DNS to point website at correct IP on server.

Can you not jsut put them both on port 80 and use host headers?

They are proprietary config servers using JBoss and Jetty. I am a fan of simple solutions and the second NIC may be the way to go. Thanks for the ideas good.

Maybe im missing the point here but why not just have two sub domains

 

So

 

IntranetOne.Sch.uk

 

IntranetTwo.sch.uk

 

Whatever url's you want to use ??

 

Instead of trying to use different ip addresses / ports etc

If I change the 8081 port, their site will not work correctly. I already have a subdomain going to the port 80 site, just not sure how to simplify the other. I'm glad for the second NIC suggestion, i'll give that a whirl.
