Selling old whiskey

My dad went into a home the other week so we decided to clear out his garage (amazing what they keep)

 

He used to get a bottle of whiskey as a gift off some contractors which he didn't drink so we found about 20 bottles of the stuff in the garage. Some Glenfiddich, Bells, Grouse but the labels and all mouldy.

 

Do you think its okay to sell it? Hate to poison anyone but imagine if the bottles are sealed they should be okay.

 

He also used to do wine making but never drunk the stuff so there is 30 bottles of home brew too.

 

There's always kids hanging round the local shop wanting me to go in and buy them some 20/20

From personal experience, Bells after 20 years tastes hideous but then again it's hideous to begin with.....

I would try and sell anything with a recognisable label on it... Obviously Caveat Emptor applies.

 

If it doesn't have a label. freecycle it, or just chuck it.

The wine could have turned into a potent Port by now. May be worth an experiment!

If you are confident that the whiskey has stayed sealed all this time then they should be fine.

 

Oh and btw, if you sell you can't claim that they are X years old whiskey as it doesn't mature in the bottle

I believe the Scottish stuff is whisky and the Irish whiskey.

If the bottles are sealed then it should be good but unless you can tell what the actual distiller and particular one is you won't get soo much for any of it.

 

The homebrew tbh is probably best poured down the drain unless you want to sample it yourself.

The malt whisky will be drinkable and may have improved. The blends are probably exeactly the same as before... use those for flaming your Christmas pudding or whisky mac when you have a cold!

 

The home brews are anyone's guess. They coukd have turned to vinegar or water... they won't poison, but thee only way to test their drinkability is to take a sip.

Serously though. if yoy could post up a list of what you have (in age when bottled if poss) Shaun has a very good knowlege of whiskey and could advise if you have anything that could be collectable or at least worth a couple of bob.
