Arthur Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Couldn't they have come up with a better name? Who still buys carphones! Source: Engadget Dixons and Carphone Warehouse have just completed a merger and will now be known as Dixons Carphone. The negotiations began in earnest some three months ago, but merger discussions between the companies have been ongoing since long before that. Dixons has some 950 Currys and PC World outlets, while Carphone Warehouse is England's largest telecom retailer with over 2,000 stores and a 46 percent share of Virgin Mobile France. Dixons Carphone will therefore have nearly 3,000 stores and 35,000 employees, prior to any cost-cutting. However, Carphone Warehouse noted that the deal, which is still subject to shareholder approval, would save up to £80 million per year -- meaning some chopping is no doubt in order. No money reportedly changed hands, and each brand will continue to focus on its traditional products.
Trapper Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Sounds like Dock Green nick have finally been issued with police radios.
Arthur Posted May 16, 2014 Author Posted May 16, 2014 Would the staff who work in Dixons even know what a carphone was?
laserblazer Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 At least one company won't drag the other down. They're both as bad as each other!
Zoom7000 Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 I still don't understand why they rebranded all their Dixons stores to currys.digital, when the company name was Dixons Group!
loosebolts Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 Certainly an interesting merger. We've a local trading estate with a Carphone Warehouse, Currys and a PC World. Half this estate is going to be owned by the same company! However, I did wander around the currys the other week, it's like the technology store that time forgot!
SteveBentley Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Would the staff who work in Dixons even know what a carphone was? Not convinced some of them know what a phone is.
Bananas Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Would the staff who work in Dixons even know what a carphone was? Isn't that what The A Team had in their van
fiza Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 (edited) In Germany Carphone Warehouse is branded as Phonehouse Not sure "Dixons Phonehouse" would have been much better. Sounds like ET's cousin whose English is not so good. "Dixon phone house" Edited May 19, 2014 by fiza
Gibbo Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Its good of them to start consolidating all the horrible companies I'd never use, into one easy-to-avoid company. 1
