Without any prior warning a discussion has been held by the BM and Condor about setting up automatic reporting through the SMTP mailing method of Uniflow server.

However I can't seem to get the settings to working and keep receiving the same error. I have attached a screenshot so that any individuals with better knowledge than me can help the cause.

The authentication type drop down contains these options:

  • No Authentication
  • SMTP after POP3 (APOP)
  • SMTP Authentication auto.select
  • SMTP Authentication NTLM
  • SMTP Authentication CRAM-MD5
  • SMTP Authentication LOGIN
  • SMTP Authentication PLAIN

Any help will be greatly appreciated. I know I have filled everything out correctly but I might not be right in my own knowing.

You can always setup a SMTP relay as per Microsoft's instructions for Uniflow as there is some applications/devices that do not want to play nice directly with Office 365 (such as our canon photocopiers)

The instructions are a bit heavy but I am following them. Very useful information there. Ours are Canon too. I might assume that our suppliers won't share this with use because they might want to charge us for a Uniflow Server software upgrade so that it "works".

For us the process seemed quite straightforward

We setup IIS6 on one of our Windows 2008 servers so we could get the SMTP relay then followed the guide here

We choose to point our SMTP relay at our ISP's smart relay as it does not let port 25 outside otherwise for us.

We did not worry about configuring the remote domain only to our domain name, as we use our copiers to e-mail governors and suppliers direct when the need occurs.

In 365 I did setup a mail flow Connector for inbound Connections for our Local SMTP Relay, with our domain name and the external IP address of the mail server that I know it goes though just to be certain of security.

Cheers, found that guide myself about an hour ago. It was very useful after following the actual Microsoft guide and it still not working. With the power of them bot combined it started working.

It almost seemed too simple when I thought about it but now that it's working I just have to remember to change the password on the SMTP Relay when the password is changed on Office 365. This is because with all of the instruction that guide gave. I still needed to assign the outgoing mail address and password. Just following that guide wasn't enough so Combine two and the relay began to work.

Thanks again for the help.

Just to type up my process now for future use.

Or you could just set the password on that O365 account to never expire, which is what we do for our DirSync account

Set-MSolUser -Identity Blah -PasswordNeverExpires $True
