Tesla Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 Interesting read... BBC News - Sega v Nintendo: Sonic, Mario and the 1990's console war
novastorm Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 I was a sonic type of guy back in the day. I Also liked Nighttrap on the Mega CD, rubbish game, but It had a good idea to it for its time.
jumpinjamez Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 I was SENS all the way ,Highlights included Super Mario Kart, Super Mario World , Street Fighter 2, Zelda - A Link to the Past, Sim City Longer joypad cables , Mode 7, Starfox. Some people believe that Sega`s reluctance to move forward and bleed the mega drive to death with addons such as CD ROM and 32x a was the start of the end for them in the hardware market. But then Nintendo dropped the PlayStation ball with Sony. 1
Disaster Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 I thought I was ace on SNES MarioKart until I saw some japanese kid play. Nintendo all the way!
Tesla Posted May 13, 2014 Author Posted May 13, 2014 I was a Sonic guy...ahh Mega CD you ever play Sewer shark on it @novastorm ?
rich_tech Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 Altered Beast ! first time I had seen a "New" Arcade game on a machine for the home. Sega here, though my sister owned an N64 later on which was awesome. Golden Axe - ! Streets of Rage - ! Street Fighter 2 - !
Tesla Posted May 13, 2014 Author Posted May 13, 2014 coul dnever do golden Axe, found it too difficult.... (those damn fire breathing beasts!) Streets of rage was awesome! Ever complete it with 2 players? you could (SPOILER ALERT!) pick good or bad at the end and end up fighting eachother...

But then Nintendo dropped the PlayStation ball with Sony. Sad thing is you could list the same Nintendo games now. I had a SNES and thought it was great, but to see them hold on to the same old games just shows how far behind they have fallen for today's gamers. Still Mario Kart on the Wii was still played a lot!!
Garacesh Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 I was a Mega Drive/Master System kid. Sonic the Hedgehog, Castle of Illusion, etc. Altered Beast ! Many an aggravated childhood memory from this game
sparkeh Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 SNES -> N64 -> GameCube -> Wii Gameboy -> Gameboy Colour -> DS I have bought Mario Kart on many different devices
tmcd35 Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 My first real console was the Playstation. Before that it was the Commodore Amiga and Amstrad CPC. Just before getting the Playstation (we're talking a matter of months) my brother got a Binatone Pong console, a Sega Master System, and a SNES. I got a GameGear with MS adapter to play the 2-3 MS games we had. I've discovered most pre-Playstation console stuff through emulation since. I'd say I preferred Sonic to Mario. That said Star Fox was pretty special with it's Mode 7 3D graphics!
Tesla Posted May 13, 2014 Author Posted May 13, 2014 my first console was the dreamcast..... technically the mega drive and saturn i have are my Old Mans.
Grey-gear Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 My first console was the NES playing Mario, amazing game
foofighterjim Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 Megadrive for me: Sonic, the original FIFA, Lotus II, Super Monaco Grand Prix, Johna Lomu Rugby, Micro Machines (how awesome was it that the cartridge had extra controller ports!).
Tesla Posted May 13, 2014 Author Posted May 13, 2014 THE. ORIGINAL. FIFA. YES. EA ALL STARS. RON BARR! I always played EA All Stars vs Qatar haha. Micro machines was amazing, and super monaco GP, the second season was an absolute killer though!

Micro machines was amazing, and super monaco GP, the second season was an absolute killer though! Funny I used to always play as Qatar when on my own and Italy when playing with friends. The key to the second season on Super Monaco was to get the fast guy to run into the back of you. That would get rid of him for half a lap, rinse and repeat. I managed to win the second season with the original class (C or D?) team you start the game with.
Tesla Posted May 13, 2014 Author Posted May 13, 2014 (edited) even if i got pole he always got ahead of me before i could move over! you start as a low C...Minarae instead of Minardi...lol... pretty sure i have a save state for it on the emulator on my pc from when i tried it a couple of years ago..... Zoom7000 Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 My first console was a SNES, but I was definitely a big Sonic fan. I went with the SNES however, because most of my friends had SNES' and we could trade games. I still remember the sense of achievement when I finally completed Super Mario Bros 3 and Super Mario World (Without cheating!) and not forgetting Street Fighting 2 on Level 7 with Ryu! (Damn that fight battle with M. Bison!) And I had many a fun hours playing Starwing (Star Fox) - Albeit very frustrating!
novastorm Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 I was a Sonic guy...ahh Mega CD you ever play Sewer shark on it @novastorm ? no!!!!
