Morning All

Wasn't sure where to stick this so went with a safe bet. Have applied for a job at a special needs school and just wondered if any of you have any tips on SEN hardware and software for me to look up before a potential interview?

I've done a few bits with Numbershark, Wordshark, Successmaker and Clicker but that was a good few years ago and wondered whats new?

TIA

Take a look at JAWS which is software for the visual impaired, very good software which can be a bit of a pain to install etc.

Have a look at Widgit.com

Most commonly used is Communicate In Print 2 and SymWriter

Also have a look at Inclusive Technology as they're a big supplier of SEN hardware

SuccessMaker is another one you might come across, its a horrible program to install and maintain, nevermind move servers but it is used by SEN in places, actual program isnt all that bad though.

TextHelp's Read and Write is something we've invested in recently, and i've seen it outside of work as well. Works in centrally 'managed' or 'unmanaged' modes. It's got a lot of nifty functionality, but is mostly used as a screen/document reader here.

As others have said the communicate packages and a browse of inclusive should cover most areas. You might also want to look into the ipad side of things and apps like proloquo2go. Would do no harm to look into sensory/softplay room equipment also.

Hi, Bananas,

With a declaration of interest in sig block!

Hope you were successful - whether you were or not, I'd add that it is worth revisiting all of the above. Clicker has moved on, with latest "Clicker" offering much more than previous releases. Much the same for the newly released version 5 of Wordshark an Numbershark 5, where the new features make them even more useful for SEN than previous releases, but critically also make them much stronger for “inclusion” and “whole school” use.
