Mandatory profiles here for *all* users regardless of staff or students. Saves so much hassle it's unreal.

Do you use redirected app data so users keep their settings etc or not worry?

Use use mandatory for students but I'd love to implement them for staff too. Speed up loading slightly.

Roaming profiles for staff with a stack of redirection to keep them small and fast, students get mandatory with a bunch of redirection to keep customisable and delprof2 saves the day on each machine startup.

How what's the spec of your machines? What AV? What classroom

Management / systems management software is running? Do you have the adobe creative suite?

Intel i3 2.0 GHz

4GB RAM

250GB 7,200 RPM HDD

OS: Win 7 SP1 x86

AV: Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1

I don't have any classroom management software running on the machines. The only bit I do have is VNC (when it's not being temperamental) and I also make use of Windows Remote Assistance. And no, we don't use Adobe Creative Suite.

7200 rpm drives! That will help, and no adobe cs stuff caching in the background taking up ram and disk time. Not a bad set up!

Never said what I use. Staff have local and students have Mandatory.

However we store the source copy of the Mandatory profile on the local machines. It helps performance when using wireless fat client laptops. Also it reduces unnecessary network traffic and server during logon.

We are just now evaluating the use of mandatory profiles. Moving away from everyone having local profiles.

Can I ask how you have the local machine mandatory profile configured? Or better yet, confirm if I'm guessing at this correctly...

Configure a mandatory profile on a machine.

Deploy the mandatory profile during machine imaging

In AD for the user, specify the local path to the mandatory profile (ie: c:\users\default.v2)

Do you still use folder redirection to maintain user preferences?

Thanks for a great thread everyone... it's left me with a lot to think about.
