Deploying Flash via MSI

Morning all,

 

Hopefully a quick question. I'm looking at deploying the latest version of flash via MSI.

 

On the download site there's two versions of the MSI, one for IE and the other for plugin-based browsers. Do I need to deploy both or will one of them cover everything?

We use Chrome, Firefox, and IE here.

 

In the past I've just pushed out the plugin based version.

 

Any advice much appreciated.

I deploy both of them to cover all eventualities, but with a filter to exclude W8 machines from the IE one (as it's built in). ActivInspire (if you have Promethean) needs the plugin version. If you're all W8 I guess you could skip the IE version.

Yes, Chrome has its own built in Flash Player, so that solves that problem. However, you will need to push out both versions, so IE, Firefox, Opera and any other browser can make use of it.

This is another of the reasons we went Windows 8 and Chrome as that way there were two browsers with flash embedded. You can push flash via the MSI and I did successfully for years but the MSIs are junk and when they break it can take a manual visit to each machine to fix the resulting mess.

Have you considered ninite.com? I have used it in the past for deploying and mass updating the essentials such as flash etc over a domain.
