Trying to build a TOSHIBA SAT PRO NB10-A-10P with Win 7 PRO 64 bit

Hello,

 

Not having much luck building this machine with win 7 64 it, came with win8 64bit on it.

 

its bios doesn't contain an option to disable the new style bios and its not liking WDS images, I built a build "Bootable UEFI" pen drive with Rufus UEFI Bootable USB Flash Drive - Create in Windows and it will copy files, but crashes on the start-up screen.

 

This is a demo unit we are hoping to buy them to replace old netbooks and run win 7 64bit for now as we have not even started doing any planning/testing for win 8.1 etc.

 

Anyone come across these units?

Not that can find, and the Bios is seriously sparse.

 

here I advanced section in there but it only has some basic options to disable virt features/set boot order.

Some of the old Tosh BIOS's had an Advanced mode. FN+F1 or something like that. Might be the same. Dunno. Hope you find a solution ; )

Can you install windows 8 just as a bootloader and try it that way. Also if you can upgrade wds to a winpe 4.1 image it should be able to handle imaging, look into MDT also.

I wrestled with a slightly different Tosh last night a C850 but same issue wouldn't let me install 7.

 

I don't know what options you have in the BIOS but i followed these from the Toshiba site.

 

Go into the BIOS and then to the Security Tab, disable Secure Boot.

Then go into the Advanced Tab then System Configuration, change the Boot Mode to CSM

Any joy with this?? Got one of these, got into uefi setting and disabled secure boot, but still won't even try to boot off of a win 7 usb key

I'd look at imaging on a Windows 7 install them installing Windows 8 on top of it in a separate partition - Even if you have to pull the HD to do it. This should add the EFI aware bootloader to the system, you can then edit the bootloader with BDC edit to clear out the Windows 8 entry and then kill the W8 partition and expand the W7 one. You may then be able to do a raw image of this onto pulled hard drives or via WIMS in WinPE4.

 

Actually I'm lying - personally - I have been pushing W8 for a while now but this workaround or at least WinPE4 with BCD edit and images may work. The above is just a test to see if it can work with the W8 bootloader handing off to the ancient OS. Had to do the same with a server once, would not boot of IDE so I left a CD in it that chain loaded the IDE drives to get the system running - a dirty hack but it kept the system running in a way it was never intended to for a whole year until we finally got the budget to replace it.

I spoke to Toshiba about this last week, they are 'unofficially' going to produce a toolkit (BIOS update to unlock SecureBoot + Windows 7 Drivers) they should be ready by the end of the month.

I thought that as part of Windows 8 logo requirements, OEM's had to be able to let users switch SecureBoot on and off for x86 UEFI, but not on the ARM based UEFI. Wouldn't that mean then that Toshiba is violating the logo requirements for x86?

 

On another note, most of my PC's here are still running BIOS and not UEFI yet, though that will change in the future as PC's get replaced. I've yet to try and install Windows 7 in UEFI mode on a pure UEFI system. One of these days when there is free time...

Jasbo, you say you have trouble with WDS and your TOSHIBA laptop. Have you injected the NIC drivers into the WDS server?

I've now got the BIOS upgrade (1.40) that will allow you to turn off SecureBoot and change the BIOS from UEFI to CSM booting.

 

This has allowed me to boot and install Windows 7 onto my NB10T.

 

If anyone is interested, here's a Dropbox link to the BIOS update, all you need to do is run the app from within Windows 8 and it will upgrade the BIOS to version 1.40.

hi i was just wondering if you ever got the toshiba nb10 working with wds and windows deployment toolkit for windows 7. we too have a unit on evaluation which has the latest bios and the recommended setting changed but still cannot get it to work not sure if its not possible or theirs something im missing any advice would be appreciated
