OMG that just reminded me of something that happened when I was a field engineer for Drs surgeries.

We were tracing cabling back to a Drs room so that meant stick head up into the loft, with torch in hand I braved opening the hatch and sticking my head through. Flashing the torch around looking for the cables something near to the hatch caught my eye I shone the torch in that direction and screamed promptly falling of the ladder.

In the loft near the hatch was a stuffed fox, with it's lips peeled back snarling. Talk about a brown trouser moment, the staff were oh yeah that's Dr so and so's we put it up there as it's horrible. Thanks for the warning guys, really

I was nearly brought to tears but not really out of laughter. I found them all incredibly sad. I find taxidermy generally very sad even when done well but poorly done taxidermy just makes me feel desperately sorry for the animal in question. I need to go look at some pictures of my cat to make myself feel better now.

In North Walsham we are lucky enough to have the Winstanley Cat Pottery, a few years ago I had a pottery model of our cat made as a Christmas present for the wife. Its a unique piece and a much nicer and cheaper way to preserve the memory of your pet than taxidermy.

I had no idea this was a thing! OMG! That really is a lovely way to memorialise a beloved pet and much less ghoulish. I wonder if you could ask the potter to seal your pets ashes inside in their little casket?

At the time it was only an extra £10 to have the model painted to look like your cat, ive no idea if you can have the cats ashes interred as our Storm is still very much alive.

This is their website Winstanley Cats.index.html

The hardest part for me was picking a model that looked like my cat

In the pottery section they say they can try to paint it with your cats markings so I imagine the difficult bit is choosing which pose. I'd be interested to see a picture of your cat sculpture.

That website looks like it hasn't been updated in 20 years. Mind you it matches the product it's selling so fair enough

Me-ow. No need to be catty about it.

Yeah, rubbish website but as a concept and as a way of creating a sweet reminder of a beloved pet it is considerably better than taxidermy. Posting that pic of Truffie bought tears to my eyes. I still miss her nearly 2 years on.
