In a survival type situation, you need any protein you can. Hamster, Rat, Mouse, Snake, Lemming, as long as there weren't flies on the meat, and it was cooked very thoroughly, it would be fine.

You forgot dog, cat, guinea pig, budgie, parrot, mynah bird, rabbit, hare, hedgehog (yum).......the list is defined, I guess, only by one's sensitivities.

Can't imagine you'd get a decent meal our of a hedgehog, though.

I don't know, a couple of lettice leaves, some cheese and pineapple, fava beans and a nice cianti - Sounds better than half the "meals for one" at our local Tesco.

I think/could imagine the world wide governments should organise (In secret, so people think it's genuine) an event where they just knock all power off, just as a test to see how earth reacts... Then in a few years, just knock everything back on... Just imagine the chaos. Would make everything we're talking about real. Edited by L3OUGH

That's a terrible idea!!

In theory yes, lots of people would die, but that's a given in ANY situation like this... But this scenario would be played out for real, if something like that were to happen... Like everything was to die at 1.15 and not come back on for 10yrs... :o

Terrible idea. What do you gain? Governments not supposed to cause mass chaos for a laugh.

wait...WHAT?!

I thought you'd like to be involved. You can be the last one in the chain, doging bits of flying femur or something :)

Probably more filling than a budgie, but there again, I do have two of the noisy little s.

@L3OUGH if you think governments should just "flip the switch" for giggles, you belong in a mental institution. Mass riots, panicking and deaths alone would get the person the death penalty or life imprisonment alone!

I wasn't serious, geeeeeeez guys. It was intended more of I can see it happening/could imagine them doing so.

I am looking forward to this weekend. Gonna get a whole forequarter of beef...making salami, pastrami, jerky, broths and stews for canning, and lots of steak! :D

nice one, my misses is hopefully collecting a 7kg free range organic pork flank today so I can cure and slice it for bacon, mmmmm bacon....

I would head off to the mountains, set up a campsite near a water source, fish, hunt, trap and grow food. Set up multiple locations to move between due to weather or other dangers. Of course, I grew up on a farm and used to go fishing and hunting for days at a time, camping for weeks at a time, was in the scouts for years, and the military training improved the survival skills further.

I expect for many people such conditions would be pretty rough. I'd suggest raiding every store in the area to get about 10 years with if toilet paper because that would be the biggest bummer (pun intended) of roughing it for an extended time :-)

We've got a dry cure which is reliable and cost/time effective.
