I've had many teachers asking if they can have the files on their USB Flash Drives, so this program has worked wonders. http://youtubedownload.altervista.org/ Apologies if someone has previously posted this.
Alis_Klar Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 I have tried various utilities web based and Firefox plugins. They have either been slow or stopped working when youtube changed their code. I have found Realplayer 11 video downloader to be the best at downloading flv's and most other video formats. Doesn't do the conversion tho. Tho you can use VLc or Realplayer11 to play them. Wierdly I think the Mac version works better than the windows version even though the mac version is still in beta.

The link is blocked by our web filter, but I'll try and have a look from home. It'd be handy to be able to convert Flash video to a format suitable for editing. Personally, I don't convert Flash video just to play it, I simply play it with Wimpy FLV player: http://www.wimpyplayer.com/products/wimpy_standalone_flv_player.html YouTube videos can be copied straight from Internet Explorer's browser cache, no extra software required. -- David Hicks

Zoom7000 Posted May 3, 2008 Author Posted May 3, 2008 I'm not too fussed with conversion myself. I've installed MPC with K-Lite so it plays almost anything. The conversion is usually good cause teachers usually have no clue how to play .flv files at home. Especially ICT Teachers!

Trapper Posted May 3, 2008 Posted May 3, 2008 Just as a side note YouTube Downloader is a fantastic piece of software for creating small WMV video files. It can also take a video and convert it to MP3 audio. Very useful when some students need a music video they've found on YouTube in an audio format for a piece of expressive arts coursework. Very small and compact piece of software, and tends to be a fair bit quicker than Movie Maker.
