inconsistant youtube error

Hi everyone!

I am currently trying to resolve an issue we are having watching youtube videos. On some pc's we have no issues at all, and on others we get 1 second of video before it errors and fails to play.

I am currently working on 2 machines, one with the issue and one without. These are the same model machine, with identical images. The issue occurs regardless of who logs in, their access rights etc.

 

I have also tried using my phone's network to see if the error could be caused by our smoothwall server, but apparently not!

 

The issue is effecting both IE and Firefox. We are running the same version of IE and FF with the same version of Flash on both machines.

Anyone got any advice for us?!

We got this when we didn't have an speakers connected (or the motherboard drivers for the internal speakers weren't installed).

That seems to have worked for the machines in the office, I hope it will for everywhere else!

 

I don't understand why updating the audio drivers would work though!

We are getting similar problems, with a 'try again later' error or a 'Fix connection ' page. It will sometimes work in Chrome instead but not always, the same 'page can not be found' type of error. This does not affect everyone and the audio driver solution didn't work, but it is too random to pinpoint the problem.

We had this issue and took us a few hours to figure that out, appears to be an flash/youtube issue.

Can also be caused by some filtering, related to HTTPS connections to various parts of youtube/google.

We get this if no audio device is detected, it first started early this year but the second you plug headphones in it works

We always have audio devices attached but still get the problem.....

Nik, this sounds like that sound issue. Does the sound icon in the system tray have an x on it? If not, try bypassing it in your content filter? Filtering will definitely do this.

We have this problem when I am logged into my Youtube account.

I think it's something to do with which videos render in HTML5 (which isn't working on our version of IE) and which (generally older) videos are still only available as .flv

 

We get around the problem by having Chrome browser too, and the youtube videos work fine with that.

You can use a reg key to disable the audio detection in windows to get around this. Its on by default with the default windows 7 driver. "High definition audio device"
