hawc Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Hi all, My Samsung Galaxy Ace is showing it's age now, with things like opening the lock screen takes a few seconds from pressing the home button, and the phone taking a long time to unlock. The phone takes ages to turn on too... It also still runs Gingerbread! My Birthday is soon, so I am planning to invest in a new phone (Upto £200) Things I need: Android A decent camera that can film in 1080p. I would also like a 1080p screen if that is possible 4G (Maybe). I am on Three currently. Any recommendations anyone? Thanks Harry
featured_spectre Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 If you were willing too, I would say get a Sony Xperia Z Ultra (or any of the Z range). It's a nice phone, waterproof (mine went through a washing cycle - by accident - and still worked)

mole Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 I'm looking to get a Cubot One next month. £130 unlocked from amazon.
RichCowell Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 I got the Google Nexus 5 in November, only £300 direct from Google...loving it! 1
Guest Guest Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 The galaxy s5 and htc one2 are out in the next month. Wait for those to come and get their predecesor. I've done a lot of looking lately and the only other 2 which have caught my eye are the moto g and the lg g5??? I think it is
hawc Posted March 8, 2014 Author Posted March 8, 2014 Well done 02. Went in to a store today to have a look and was constantly asked if I was ok or needed anything.
rich_tech Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Well done 02. Went in to a store today to have a look and was constantly asked if I was ok or needed anything. They all do that, EE were bad for it the other day, I went into one the other day with my grandad, wife and son, despite them seeing that I was with my wife and grandad and that I picked my boy up and was walking about the shop with him while they were sorting out some SIM cards, I had no less than 5 other staff as me the same, if I was OK or needed anything. I doubt the people want to do it, good old corporate telling them to help people and "build relationships" or something daft ill wager.
abillybob Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Buy a cheap and cheerful Samsung galaxy S3 and shove Cyanogenmod on it. My old S3 is still going strong and works like a dream. My Girlfriend has it now and she can always run all the most demanding apps on it and it's fine!
newpersn Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Phones 4 u, i traded my old Note 2 and got a note 3 on EE, I had 210 for my Note 2, + 50 for moving to EE (4G), Bluetooth speaker, and the Samsung Gear. Samsung S4 and Note 3 if moving to contract. If not, What about the S4 Mini? (out of price range though) 1
CHR1S Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Be wary if your going Chinese knock off, there are some VERY good phones but you dont know what your getting until its too late. If you buy an import from a UK disti then you also pay the UK premium. My S3 still runs flawlessly, although cyanogenmod tried its best to kill my phone. I was a big fan of their earlier releases but the latter just hammered my battery and caused frequent lockups. On the stock Sammy ROM now and despite its bloat, still great. I brought the OH a sony xperia sp, should be around £200 give or take, slightly better than the S3 with a much better battery life. Personally I would do as @j17sparky said and wait it out, price drops coming soon.
fiendishlyclever Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 I bought a nexus 5 for £240 from Carphone Warehouse a couple of weeks ago. I'm liking it as much as my iPhone 4S - the camera isn't as good, had to start again with apps but loving the screen and keyboard. At that price there wasn't anything to think about...
hawc Posted March 10, 2014 Author Posted March 10, 2014 My Nexus 5 is scheduled for Delivery tomorrow. Shame that Three will not have my SIM out to me by then. Phoned on Saturday to request new SIM so that number and credit can be moved over. I wonder if I can just buy another SIM in Asda and transfer across.
