Internet explorer proxy dosent getr applied on a Windows 7 PC. Explorer version 10

Hi

 

We had Windows 2008 and recently we migrated from windows 2008 to Windows 2012.We have 350 XP PCs in our school and we will be migrating all PCs to windows 7.

 

I had installed Windows7 on PC and tested to make sure if every thing works fine.

I noticed that when windows 7 is on IE 9 , the internet works fine perfectly and picks up different proxy settings as per the user.

 

Staff: Staffproxy.domain.local (medium restricted)

Student: Studentproxy.domain.local (less restricted)

Administrator: adminproxy.domain.local (Bypass proxy access)

 

But after running the windows updates on this PC Internet Explorer 10 gets installed.

Now when I open the IE10 the proxy settings don't get applied and the webpage cannot be displayed.

 

Any help to trouble sort and sort this much appreciated.

We still just run ie9...most people use chrome anyway here.. not had any issues so far.

Recently I've found on two Windows 7 clients I use that Chrome picked up Malware.

 

IT's a change in the way the gpo handles proxies, ie10 onwards uses a different gpo setting to pick up the proxy details..

Not spotted this anywhere myself, however a browser is a browser. There's always going to be security issues. Especially when Flash player is involved (as its built into Chrome).

No Malware that i've seen, though people still manage to get delta toolbars et al. *sigh*

 

i hadnt used the policies, the last time i tried to look into it, i couldnt find the right into, but @localzuk 's link seems to be the one, so i will be looking into that

For ie10 and 11, I use the internet settings in Group Policy preferences. Use the template which applies to IE8 and fill in the details. Once configured, look at the xml file for the template and it will say near the top the min and max versions of IE the policy will apply to. I find at a lot of the sites I manage, it defaults to max version 9. There is an auto fix for this, but I find it easiest to do it manually. Locate where in sysvol the policy is stored and edit the xml. Change the max value to something higher than the version you have installed. An old auto fix sets it at 11.5 I believe, but the new one sets it as 99.0. So I just manually set it to 99.

 

Problem solved. All proxy settings apply.
