Hi all

I am setting up a network from scratch and I was wandering if anyone could give me any ideas on remote access to docs and shared drives? All data will be stored here but I would like to give access from outside of school. I have looked at MS remote desktop, we use this at the moment from our service provider and its quite flakey (it could be the way its setup to be fair). Is there anything else anyone would recommend that works well and reliably?

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Cheers

My preferred option is to provide a remote desktop server with Office installed - that way files do not go missing being copied to memory sticks or hard drives. Licensing is fairly inexpensive with EES too.

I did look into a web based system running on a WebDAV server but that really baffled some of my less teccy staff.

Is that used by staff and students? Did you have to take the EES student option to allow students to connect remotely? I would be interested in the ball park figure you paid for this? How many students and staff do you have?

I have put this forward and its all costed for, you're right its not too bad on pricing. It is very slick, particularly for Mac users but we just seem to get weird things happening. I'm not privvy to the back end so it may be the setup.

It was priced on our full time members of staff on EES, ours is about £233 per year over 3 years. We have 44 full time staff and about 500 students.

I have 150 staff and 420 students - When I asked the licensing reseller she said that for the EES we pay based on the number of staff and student usage is included.

Are you providing just remoteapps or remote desktops too? @Millgate any guidance on this? Kate went through it with me but I have forgotten as I only remembered the bits I was interest in.
