Hello everyone, i was wondering if any of you could be so kind as to give your experiences with the parts i have bought to upgrade my PC.

 

My main current specs are:

i5 3570k @ standard speed

MSI 7850 Twin Frozr III 2GB

8GB Corsair vengeance 1600mhz ram

500GB Seagate barracuda

Asus p877v lx mobo

 

I will be adding:MSI R9 270x Gaming 2g edition

Kingston SSDnow 120gb sata3

Corsair Raptor HS40 7.1 gaming headset

Corsair Raptor K30 gaming keyboard

 

I am upgrading as my gpu just does not seem to able to play games at the settings i want with the fps i want (bf4,dayZ,Skyrim,Planetside 2,crysis3 and farcry3) and for some reason skyrim just does not seem to work with this card, the fps is fine but the mouse controls are completely off and unusable, this is the case for a few other games too.

SSD wont make too much of a difference unless you are installing games direct too it or the OS. Depends on your choice.

 

Graphics card should make everything a walk in the park.

 

keyboard and headset is all down to personal preference.

Samsung would be the way to go for me, as simply the kingston stuff is behind in firmware so would likely have a higher failure ratio...also the specs are as follows.

 

Samsung evo specs

 

540MB/s Sustained Sequential Write

410MB/s 4KB Random Read

Up to 94,000 IOPS

4KB Random Write

Up to 35,000 IOPS

MTBF1,500,000 hours.

 

Kingston V300 SPECS

 

Up to 450 MB/s Max Sequential Write

Up to 450 MB/s 4KB Random Read

Up to 85,000 IOPS

4KB Random Write

Up to 55,000 IOPS

MTBF1,000,000 hours

For me personally i dont see the point in paying that much more for slightly better specs, as it is i have not even seen/used an SSD yet so im sure i will be more than happy with the performance compared to my HDD.

 

Granted i am only that way because my wages are garbage :p

Is there much of a price difference between the Evo and Pro versions of the samsung SSD Line up ?

Put it this way, we have been fitting the EVOs in machines around the school.

171.11 < roughly how many months usage you will get from the Samsung (14 years 3 months ish)

114.78 < roughly how many months usage you will get from the Kingston (9 years 6 months ish)

 

Factor in the read/write speeds, the samsung gives you better longevity and better performance. However I can attest for a personal machine going from a HDD to SSD is a huge leap! :)

While the R9 270X is a good card, it's a relatively modest upgrade from the 7850 (though may make the difference between unplayable and playable in those games). See if you can get one with a decent overclock to make the most of it. Your old card is worth good money and will take much of the sting out of the cost of the new.

I got the Kingston my computer at work. Works Fine. Boots up W8 within a few seconds (even with all the crap i got on here)

 

SIMS > 10secs

Office (word, outlook) normaly instant.

 

Anything else slightly slow as i run a 1tb 2nd drive.

 

My downside my motherboard is only SATA3. not the faster one.

Also worth thinking about your PSU - that 270X uses roughly 50w more power than the 7850 (reference cards) so you may want to check your PSU can handle the increased load, this tool will help you with that:

EDIT: although the site recommends leaving load at 90%, I always put it to 100% to make sure I have sufficient head room. Also, make sure you read the notes on capacitor ageing and set it accordingly (I generally set this at 30%)

to be fair, my first day (which would clone my HDDs) would ruin that 40GB limit in 1 hit. Would copy over maybe close to 250GB. lol

 

I assume it means an average 40GB a day, i.e. "5 years" actually means a total workload of approximately 57 TB

ah well in that case I am fine :D

 

Depends how tight they are really, if you had it die on you on day two you'd hope they'd replace it as being obviously faulty but if they turned around and said you were only covered up to 80GB then you're up the creek lol. I imagine it would be seen as an obvious fault though and replaced, they're just covering their backs because they dropped the "enterprise" bomb in their spec list lol :)

Bloody DPD Was supposed to be delivered on Saturday but the delivery guy just posted the missed delivery slip and did'nt even bother knocking.

Cant wait to go pick it up from my local depot tonight!
