Help! deploying software with GPO

Hi

 

I need some help when installing software via GPO. I have a group of machines and I want to be able to login with a specific user "install account" and it automatically deploys Java, adobe thing like that.

 

I have created all the relevant folders in AD and added a new GPO, the issue I am having is assigning the software to the group policy, each time I try it brings this error...

 

"Add operation failed. Unable to extract deployment information from the package.

 

Run validation on the package to ensure the package is correct.

 

The GPO cannot be created."

 

Any Ideas?

I would do this with Computer groups rather than user groups - IE: Chuck all the Machines you want Java etc on into the group and it'll install at boot.

 

Is the error message for all MSIs you are trying to deploy? There are a lot of good guides out on the net for preparing MSIs for deployment and disabling things like automatic update etc

What server version are you using so I can move this to the correct forum?

Windows server 208 RT Standard.

Thanks or the advice. I found that the MSI file I was using was the issue ( had to download the MSI file with the .Cab file) Also the reason behind this Is that, we can easily log into all the machines after a rebuild, and not have to move machines into a new GPO as that will loose the settings currently has.

In case this helps anyone, check the event log for Administrative Events

I got

Software Installation failed to deploy package xxxxxxxxx.msi. The following error was encountered: Another installation is already in progress. Complete that installation before proceeding with this install.

I logged out, logged back in and it worked.
