When you set up the app, you link your credentials via a one time activation process. I think there are some videos being prepared on this.

We’ve chosen this approach as many teachers will already have one of these accounts and helps with not having to remember different usernames and passwords. We’ve also received a lot of feedback from schools that the ability to support two-factor authentication for Google and Microsoft identities is a big plus. TheScarfedOne is correct with the authentication – when teachers complete their one-off activation, they associate their Google, O365 or Microsoft account with their SIMS Teacher app access account. Teachers then use their chosen identity username and password to access the app from then on. The release of this app was one of the reasons we went with SIMS and also took hosted SLG (i know it's not required anymore, but it was at the time) as or teachers don't get the desktop client.

I suspect Capita will be cutting their Microsoft costs on their hosted SLG by releasing the Teacher App thus why its free, still that might be me being pessimistic however.

I've got a test version of SIMS.net running as a remoteapp on azure, just waiting for MS to fix an issue with their gateway to test it properly!

As it's in preview there is an issue connecting to certain sites from certain clients at the moment. It's a test of concept for myself at the moment but will probably be made redundant by the Sims teacher app.

Oh ok, I wouldn't bother personally, just doesn't stack up. Not quite what Microsoft told me in a meeting yesterday? What? About Azure being IL3? Azure is only IL2, if it was IL3, we'd be throwing loads more at it, especially when you think you can shutdown anything that is office hours only overnight and make a instant saving. I suppose you could argue a school MIS is only IL2, but I wouldn't want to make that call.

zag Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 (edited) Nice to hear its coming. Not sure teachers will want to log in with a full username and password each time though. We use Groupcall Emerge here and it needs a simple 4 digit pin code to access the app. Thats usually the same as the iPad pin code so easily remembered. For info, Emerge pricing is about 3k a year for a site license. Since they had a unique product they could basically charge whatever they wanted, so lets hope the competition drives down prices Edited November 3, 2014 by zag
