Hi All

I'm wondering if any of you have any experience of using Microsoft Intune as an MDM solution for iPad management? If you have or do use it, what are your thoughts on it?

We are considering trailing it (along with Meraki's offering).

Cheers! :-)

To what I understand Windows InTune costs money where by Meraki doesn't so if you're just using it for iPads and Mobile Devices go with Meraki. I haven't ever used InTune but I know a fair few techs that have had some problems where it's not doing what it's supposed to like deploying applications. But you get this with nearly all MDM solutions.

Why is Meraki so popular? Its free of course.

Meraki MDM is owned by Cisco!

Cisco don't do free...

I wouldn't be running off with the idea of putting your whole 1:1 iPad management onto Meraki is the be all and end all, I have a horrible feeling about this it will end in tears for sure.

Look at Logmein Free.....

We spoke to the Meraki people at BETT and there are absolutely no plans to charge for Meraki MDM any time soon.

I wouldn't expect them to, not until they at least have several million devices totally dependent on it ;) then watch out.

Logmein Free has been closed down?

Ben

I think you missed the point... Exactly, it's been free for years and got millions of users globally hooked now you must pay!

There is no such thing as a free lunch!

So watch out for Meraki MDM, make the most of it whilst you can because it's not commercially viable to keep it that way indefinitely what ever the nice man at BETT may say.

(Declaration, I am a Cisco shareholder and therefore have a vested interest in the product).

This is my main concern with Meraki. Get people hooked, lock them in, then start charging for it. The comparison to Log Me In Free is a good one to make, because I fear this is what could happen here.

I guess people who have gone down the Meraki route, if they start charging, will evaluate other MDM products then, which will probably wind up being cheaper than any Cisco owned solution, so that may play a part in any future business model Cisco have.

Cisco don't need to charge for this solution. They earn their money by inviting school technicians to their shows whereby they show you what Meraki does as a whole, configuring switches, Client PC's, Servers etc... Meraki is huge and not just an MDM, they earn their money through this. The whole idea is to get people to sign up for MDM free and then it encourages for people to buy more into Meraki systems.
