24 inch monitor +

Hi,

 

I am trying to obtain a monitor that uses the 4:3 aspect ratio and is not a widescreen lcd. We currently have a 19" lcd but we require larger for assessment work.

 

Have any of you had any luck with a 24inch or above 4:3 ratio monitor? Must have a VGA connector.

I haven't heard of such a thing being made, possibly ever. You could always buy a bigger widescreen monitor and use it in 4:3 mode with bars at the sides. Otherwise, that's a pretty boutique requirement.

I'm curious, since you can do assessment work on other aspect ratio's - what exactly is driving the 4:3 aspect ratio as a requirement?

Not a chance. Closest you'll get is a 22" CRT without getting them specially made or using a projector or big old TV (good luck on the VGA side of that though). I suspect you're overcomplicating something!

 

Last item near that description I can find is a KDS Radius RAD-23. Bet you'll see some interesting prices if you ever find a source.

Yes the 4:3 is a thing of the past really its mostly wide screen panels- I remember them all being 4:3 back in the day...

thanks for the replies guys, I thought as much. My line manager deals with the assessment work and prefers that aspect ratio, think he's just more used to that as we still use some 4:3 monitors in school.

The widescreen monitors are brilliant for assessment stuff, he wont want to go back to 4:3 after he's used one for a bit, just make sure you get one with a decent resolution.

I've got some delightful 24 inch wides that's are nice and cheap. Get him a couple of those and he'll be happy as!

Assessment work - dual monitors all the way. You really cannot beat having one screen for data entry and another for reading, saves a hell of a lot of irritating window switching!

If your user requires vertical real estate for their work, get a widescreen monitor which will rotate on its stand through 90 degrees. They will offer you their firstborn.

If they just want windows which are square, get them a widescreen monitor and tell them about WinKey + LeftArrow, WinKey+RightArrow, and they will again offer you their firstborn.

Really... 16:10 is just better. 24" 1920x1200 all the way.

Yup data manager at my last school had two monitors (actually all admin and office based staff had two monitors). Both were 24", with one vertical and one horizontal

Our data manager had 2x 21" TFTs which made her life so much easier once she got used to having them that way and other staff started to want the dual screens for improved performance. I'm lost without my dual screens they make life so much easier and save window flicking all the time and now I have lovely 24" screens at work when I use my 19"s at home I'm like aww these are tiny
