Also it seems many people use in ear or hook over ear phones for running/gym work. Maybe this is causing the deafening silence My most recent purchase of portable headphones were Philips Fidelio M1's but they were £114, they later came down to £99. The previous ones I had were Sennheiser PX 200's but that was a long while ago and I think they were about £40, and the latest version is around the £70 mark. I have just looked on Amazon and the Sennheiser PX 100's are just under £30 but they are open backed and might be unsuitable in a gym due to sound leakage. The Koss PortaPro's are also under £30 but I'm not sure about the sound quality of those. The reviews are pretty good. Back in the day (1970s) Koss were the headphones to buy. Don't know if this will help, maybe it will stimulate some debate and you'll get more recommendations! 1

Maybe this is causing the deafening silence Yeah the hook over ear ones I don't like ( I have strange shaped ears from rugby!). I know the price range isn't huge but I'm not a big music person i just like the distraction from the awful music they play in the gym

north-ict Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Yeah I was impressed with them so I picked them up for my sister too at £30 however last week they were £30 on amazon now there £35 which sucks a bit. The reviews seem positive too just a few I did note that said they stopped working but majority seemed fine.

I don't tend to run much! I mainly do cycling/rowing and swimming for Cardio. They aren't too cauliflowered they are just a strange shape! But the hook around ones don't sit well.
Poults Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 I use Skull Candy chops, they hook over the ear but you can twist the actual ear piece to the angle that is best for you. They also seem incredibly water proof, i sweat buckets but these have survived being used 3-4 a week for at least 2 years now.

Sony Walkman W273 which is a 4GB MP3 player built into headphones which is waterproof for swimming - going to give it a try and see how I get on! Will post back as it arrived about 30 mins ago!

I managed to run over my headphones on the rowing machine this morning and they didn't live through it so now I am in need of a new gym set :/ nothing fancy just need them to do the job since I won't use them outside the gym.

I've used them in the Gym since tuesday - not yet tested them swimming - work really well for the money. It comes with a little USB dock to charge them and so far I haven't had a problem I've done Running and rowing in them. Its a full MP3 player rather than just headphones 1

HaleStorm Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 For in ear i'd recommend Soundmagic E10's for the money they are incredible...easily up there quality wise with £80-£90 sets....they also make a pair of over heads but they are £160ish quid

My gym ones are in-ear Klipsch S4 Mk2, I then have a set of BeyerDynamic DT990 pro which are my engineering headphones. I then have a set of Sony Studio Monitor headphones which are my 'daily drivers' and a pair of Sennheiser HD202 which are a special switchable impedance version.
