PyROm Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 After using a card printer in the office to create cards for our equitrac print system for the last few years, the setup gets wiped. I have been trying to recraete the config however the photocopiers will not recognise the cards. Does anyone know the settings required for equitrac, eg. track number it reads, IAT or binary format, with escape codes, mpc/bpi of tracks? Nothing seems to be documented for equitrac. Thanks Robin
robk Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 Think that depends on the card reader rather than equitrac might be worth a Google of the readers.
pcstru Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 I assume it can be different for different customers, as our supplier wanted our cards before supply. I can try and see what our printer is set to but it may be of no use to you. Don't you have some support in place?
MatthewL Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 Can you give me the part number for the Equitrac card readers you have and I should be able to tell you which type of card it is you are using. There are 6 different readers from my notes.
PyROm Posted January 20, 2014 Author Posted January 20, 2014 Unfortunately not, when I first set it up ricoh/equitrac couldnt even tell me what track it read, I got it working through trial and error. Since then its kept running fine and SLT decided to let the support contract lapse as we hadn`t used it, now I need to set it up again I cant remember the settings I used, also trial and error doesnt seem to be working either, I have a large pile of non-working cards.

PyROm Posted January 21, 2014 Author Posted January 21, 2014 Thanks for reply gds64, I found it when looking, it just says iso 7813 which refers you to iso 7811-2 for the mag card encoding, that gives me track1=210bpi, track2=75bpi, track3=210bpi however doesnt tell me which track equitrac reads, the MPC (7 or 5), the required coercivity, IAT or binary encoding, or if it needs escape characters.
nadeem Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 Although we have an Equitrac setup we use mifare cards - can you not work backwards from seeing what information is on an existing card and therefore what you require.
PyROm Posted January 21, 2014 Author Posted January 21, 2014 The only other swipe card machines we have are in the kitchen tills, they read the previously made cards, however just show the data on them, not the format the card was written in. The equitrac readers are usb but I dont know of any software to tell me the format the card was written in etc. when swiped in one of these readers, it does not appear as a keyboard wedge like other readers when plugged in via usb.

What actual information is that set to write in terms of the unique identifier and where does that ID come from? What cashless tills are reading the card? Do you have any valid cards - that the MFD's will read? Who supplied the system? What MIS do you use? Do you know have legitimate access to the database server and know how to use SQL Management Studio? (apologies - I will have a go at helping you, answers to all/any of the above may or may not help). Worst case, you can buy a £30 card reader off ebay and that will tell you what is written to a card - assuming you have a valid one. Actually that's a lie, worst case is probably being nuked from orbit, these things always snowball.
PyROm Posted January 21, 2014 Author Posted January 21, 2014 The cards have a 6 digit number written to all 3 tracks, were using a datacard sp55 printer with badgemaker 5400 software, ive narrowed down all options, still not working, so now looking at reverting to older printer driver
