sippo Posted November 25, 2016 Posted November 25, 2016 Argh, my glass knees and hips are playing up again...
Iain.Faulkner Posted November 25, 2016 Posted November 25, 2016 Just the one 5k for me so far this week again with "Poynton Runners". Trying to latch onto someone who I know runs quicker than me, so my times with the running group are coming down. Supposed to be running the Wilmslow Festive 10k a week on Sunday but I'm in no condition for it. I'd get round it, but it'd be very tough and i certainly wouldn't be breaking any records. Might sign up for the Manchester Winter 10k in February 1
HarryMonkey Posted November 25, 2016 Author Posted November 25, 2016 I managed a 5k on Wednesday in 36:01 which is a slight improvement from 36:47 for my previous one. I hope to get another one under my belt tonight. I don't like running through the streets though ... the traffic fumes are horrible, the park isn't lit though so the roads it is for the time being.
smidsy Posted November 25, 2016 Posted November 25, 2016 Have you considered using a headtorch. I have seen this one used by many people and it is definitely bright enough: https://www.alpkit.com/products/gamma. They have other products but I haven't seen them in use so can't recommned them. I have the indigo but I wouldn't recommend it as being bright enough.

Yes, I've thought about a torch, however, the problem goes further than that, last year (or was it the year before), a 15/16 year old was beaten to the ground and had her trainers stolen in the park that I use so it's not somewhere I really want to be after dark.
Iain.Faulkner Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Right, so I've only gone and done it.....signed up for the Wilmslow half marathon again! 14 weeks of training ahead! 1
jdoyle Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Right, so I've only gone and done it.....signed up for the Wilmslow half marathon again! 14 weeks of training ahead! way to go! 1
Iain.Faulkner Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 (edited) way to go! Thanks...I think :-) Trying to find the training plan I had for last year but can't find it :-( - Found it!!! :-) Training starts tonight! Edited December 6, 2016 by Iain.Faulkner
Iain.Faulkner Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 First training run on Tuesday - 5.5km in 34:14 (but I do walk the first .5 km as a warm up) - AVG pace of 6:12 /km
headoned Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 This week I have challenged myself to run 30miles in the form of 5x6mile efforts. So far I'm two runs in and have the next run tomorrow night. I'm averaging around 1h for each run
HarryMonkey Posted December 8, 2016 Author Posted December 8, 2016 Did a 35:43 last night including a slow first bit whilst trying to secure my phone in my jacket after kicking off Endomondo. Made a concerted effort in the last 500m not to go over 4 mins for that bit despite being uphill so was quite pleased with that. I might start doing some "Bridge to 10k" runs after Christmas.
smidsy Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 Not done a lot of training recently but did the first running of the Fordh Sen Mighal run on Saturday. This follows the St Michaels Way walk from the North Coast over the hills behind St Ives to the South Coast. That would have been a hard enough 11mile run by itself but off course it was chucking it down the whole time. Could barely walk up the stairs yesterday and they aren't much better today! Going to have to make sure I move a lot today otherwise I might not be able to get up from my chair.
Iain.Faulkner Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 Got out on Friday after work for a drizzly 8km. Nice steady pace, but glad to get out and do something a little bit longer. First real week of half marathon training this week with runs of 5k, 8k and 12k planned
AJWhite1970 Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 For the last couple of weeks I've run 4k every day during my lunch break. Been trying to run level 7mins/km pace which I can comfortably do. A chest infection isn't helping with the breathing though....
jdoyle Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 Did the RunVember challenge last month with a pledge to run at least 1 mile each day in November. 294 runners taking part this year apparently with an enormous amount collected for Swindon's homeless. Off to the end of challenge "awards" night tonight. 2
Iain.Faulkner Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 Out with Poynton Runners again last night, quickest 5km run that I've done with them at 29 minutes 15 seconds (and on a hillier route than normal), average pace of 5:51 per Km. Small group in the 5km runners tonight (only 4 of us) and somehow I was the first to finish :-) I know it's not a race, but was still quite pleased with myself :-) 3
sippo Posted December 16, 2016 Posted December 16, 2016 You know you out running early when you start seeing animals and people that aren't actually there... - - - Updated - - - Did the RunVember challenge last month with a pledge to run at least 1 mile each day in November. 294 runners taking part this year apparently with an enormous amount collected for Swindon's homeless. Iain.Faulkner Posted December 16, 2016 Posted December 16, 2016 (edited) Got out for another 8km last night, felt much fitter than last week (no idea if I am or not) and found I could run it at a better pace than last weeks 8km run...last night was at 6:18 per km Edit : Just checked my pacing for last weeks 8km and that was 6:20...so last night was better but it was marginal Edited December 16, 2016 by Iain.Faulkner
HarryMonkey Posted December 16, 2016 Author Posted December 16, 2016 Getting a little concerned that my OH, who is fairly new to running, is now doing 7k, three times a week where I'm struggling to get out and do a couple of 5k sessions 1
jdoyle Posted December 16, 2016 Posted December 16, 2016 You know you out running early when you start seeing animals and people that aren't actually there... - - - Updated - - - I never even knew about this. Shame. one for the calendar for next year? Keep an eye out on Facebook for HrH RunVember Challenge https://www.facebook.com/runvember2016/ or the RunVember website Runvember are you doing the Rough N Tumble 10mile in January?
sippo Posted December 16, 2016 Posted December 16, 2016 Did that last year, and there is one killer hill in it! Steep as anything I have ever encountered! Not on facebook so will whack in calendar.
Roberto Posted December 16, 2016 Posted December 16, 2016 Still struggling to run 5k - I can if I have to but I really don't want to! Last run I did was about 45 mins or so, so not much of a run really. I'd still rather walk - can do 5 miles in about an hour and 20. Either way, I'm down from 18.5 stones or so in August 2014 to 11.9 stones now and feeling great. Got to be happy with that, especially in my mid-40s these days. 3

That's a phenomenal effort to lose that much weight, well done :-) I need a bit of that motivation myself, would like another couple of stone off (down from 21 stone 10 to about 16 stone 2, but I did get down to 14 stone 10)! 1
jdoyle Posted December 16, 2016 Posted December 16, 2016 Did that last year, and there is one killer hill in it! Steep as anything I have ever encountered! This will be my 3rd time doing Rough N Tumble. Don't really run - more stumble around herding others in our group. The hill is "interesting". Going down the slope is worse I reckon.
Iain.Faulkner Posted December 19, 2016 Posted December 19, 2016 (edited) First long run of half marathon training yesterday......fairly slow 12km (just short of 8 miles) at an average pace of 6:16km Good to get out and do the longer distance, first time in about 6 months I've run that sort of distance. Also was the first time that I've done 3 runs in a week for a while :-) Edited December 19, 2016 by Iain.Faulkner 1
