Some advice for selling some kit.

A while ago we put in a Netgear wireless network and due to a few reasons we replaced it a month ish after it going in.

 

It has struck me that all the old kit was sat in a cupboard and have now dug it all out.

 

After looking on eBay the AP's sell for around £350 new and the controller £160

My question is, am I allowed to sell these? What is the legality of it? What is a fair price to ask for the lot? I have 14 AP's and one controller.

 

I am in no way advertising on here, I just need advice. Also SLT have agreed the sale of the kit. If the thread is against any rules please delete it.

Get a policy for selling written up, with governor approval. Bear in mind any VAT implications (you may need to add it on to sales, or you may be able to pay it out of the sale total - check this).

 

Then start selling! We have disposed of a huge number of things, from old classroom fittings to toner and IT parts. Well worth doing.

 

Also, put together a detailed document about how that wireless system failed. A month is not a long time for a new system (especially as the planning probably took longer than that!) You may need to cover your back on that one.

Your finance dept should be well versed in what they need to do, you sell it with no warranty other than any manufacturer warranty that may be still included, there may not be any as even kit that has lifetime warranty is normally only lifetime for the first owner.

 

You have to include vat if you reclaimed the vat in the first place.

Make sure you own the kit first, dig out Invoices and PO's if you have to.

The kit is ours, was bought last summer but we weren't happy with the performance of it. I know its a decent system having read about it but the UniFi kit we are using spanks its butt!

 

I'll go talk to finance about the VAT stuff.
