Zourous Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Ok, this is the second year it has happened to me. I'm 39 years of age and I'm finding it difficult to sleep during the xmas break of 2 weeks off work. I am simply not tired and feel so awake. Only slept a couple of hours last night when usually on a normal work day I can sleep a good 6-7 hours. Admittedly I'm not doing much and I am well rested, but I also can't easily go out as I don't drive and have a 3 year old son to look after at home. Even if I could go out the weather is crap most of the time. Is this normal does anyone know? It is quite frustrating
free780 Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 I know the feeling I'm a light sleeper. I have a 1 and 3 year old. I still feel tired out during the day.
chazzy2501 Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Sleep patterns change a lot. Don't worry about missing any. As you get older you sleep less (at night) Remember that humans have only been having 8 hour sleeps since the industrial revolution, it's not a natural thing at all. Until that time people ALWAYS got up in the middle of the night for around an hour. 2 cool tricks though (both to stop you worrying about missing sleep) 1: Never look at the time, turn your alarm around. 2: put the radio on (with a timer.. listen and you'll be asleep before you know it.) AS for the child.... Can't help;)

Put on wellies and sou'westers and go out for a good long walk every day with that three year old. More activity means more sleep.

You haven't got the physical and mental activity that normally wears you out. I also find it hard to sleep over the holidays - and I get bored during the day too. There must be something you can do with the three year old? How about a bus ride into town for a hot chocolate or something? I don't know where you are in East Sussex but there are lots of places you could go - a nice walk on a beach?
Oaktech Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 (edited) I don't know where you are in East Sussex but there are lots of places you could go - a nice walk on a beach? I've always found bexhill to be an excellent cure for insomnia. Everything about the place makes me feel exhausted! Edited December 31, 2013 by Oaktech
tech_guy Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Spend a day visiting with a whingeing, moaning elderly relative. That always wears me out!
witch Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Spend a day visiting with a whingeing, moaning elderly relative. That always wears me out! Of course if you do the whingeing and moaning yourself (as IF, @tech_guy , heaven forfend ) that uses up energy too!
plexer Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Our sleep pattern goes out the window at xmas late nights and lay ins messes it all up. Ben
Elison Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 I suppose you could go to the swimming pool with your son to teach him swimming and do some physical exercises do sleep better. And it will be very healthy for him too. Or you may go to the skating rank for the same purpose. You just need to find something that you can do together with your son.
laserblazer Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 I can't sleep now! People keep knocking on my door and waking me.
