Cheap dual VGA video card

Heya,

 

Got a pair of old Dell VGA monitors that i want to run in dual screen, anyone recommend a cheapo video card that will do the trick, even if i have to buy a DVI -> VGA adapter.

I've got a Matrox MGI G55 PCIe x1 card I could sell you if you were interested it's dvi but will work with adapters to give you vga.

I can get you something like an NVS290 or a FireMv 2250 with two VGA on low profile or full height bracket for around £20

Cheers guys, we're doing a big ebuyer order so just wanted to chuck something cheap on to that to get me sorted, looking to get a decent office machine in April as it's been years since they treated the techie to a new machine =D

Has a full dvi and vga port but whether you can use both at the same time you'd have to check the specs.

The G210 support dual displays. It is truly ancient though, something like a GT610 is the modern equivalent.

I'm in the process of building a computer for video editing. It has an integral ATI ES1000 chip but I would like a dual display. There is only a PCI-X slot left, which is a bit of a bummer and I'm running Windows Windows 7 Pro 64. I don't want to spend a lot of money, as my wife is moaning all ready! Can anyone recommend anything suitable please?

I think that you may have difficulty with that. PCI graphics cards are like rocking horse manure these days, ones which work with PCI-X slots are even rarer.

 

A PCI-X to PCI-E bridge plus a cheapo PCI-E graphics card may be your best best but those bridges are something like £120. You're not going to be able to do this cheaply I suspect.

That sounds good Dave but I've just done a bit of research and found that it's not easy to disable the onboard graphics on a Dell Poweredge 840. Seems some cards work but most prevent the computer from booting. I'd better investigate this first.
