Rawns Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 Starbound is now available on steam! It's resembles Terraria a fair bit (made by a number of the Terraria devs) but it's more 'sci-fi' themed. You have your own space ship, and you can hop between worlds! It also has what Terraria lacked, a tutorial! I've played it for a few hours and it's been good fun. It's beta and the devs say expect updates and new features thick n' fast! If you play multiplayer, be sure to get in a group and beam up to a friends ship and steal their lighting and doors! And fill their space ship up with dirt blocks too!

bushby Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 iv already got it installed on my work machine, gaming desktop and gaming laptop so its with me at all times and got the saves setup to be copyed to dropbox and extracted each day to all the devices iv already lost how much time i have put in to the game

CAM Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 I picked a copy up. Looks like it could be a Terraria 2.0? Spent ages jsut looking for iron ore though and currently trying to build the distress beacon.

Tucker tried it solo, he said a spaceship landed with loads of robots and they essentially bent him over backwards!

A spaceship hovers about, dropping penguins with rocket launchers. if you hide underground it rams the ground and breaks it up above you. The annoying part is once you use the beacon it destroys it. so if you die ten seconds later you need to craft another beacon....so get plenty of silver ready to keep doing it!

d0pefish Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 The UFO was defeated by using cowardice for me Find a place where you can go underground, but have line of sight up to the ground. Summon the UFO, go underground and use the iron bow on it. It will drop penguins but some will land on the surface, some will land elsewhere in the cave you are in, just keep firing at the UFO. Providing there's enough dirt between you and it, you should be able to get the UFO down to 1/4 health before it gets through to you. It's just a case of focusing on the UFO and ignoring the penguins unless they specifically see you. I had two penguins about 3 blocks away from me but couldn't see me, so I left them. Once the UFO is down, be careful as the penguins stick around, so heal before jumping out if you need to. They've also changed how you get silver armour now. You have to craft the metalwork station (by defeating the UFO), make the starmap blueprints (which enable you to go to beta sector) and use them, this then gives you more options in crafting. BTW, if you ever see an anchor and chain going up from the ground, follow it up with wood platforms, there's most likely a floating airship with vendors and lots of loot. Just dont make the mistake I did and get scared, fire on them first and have them attack you....they usually are friendly unless you attack

Bit creepy really Have you found the Apex testing facilities? Couple of planets I've been on have zombiefied Apex and monkeys in labcoats, and loads of the test tubes around. I think you can also craft an Apex spawn thing.

I'll have to keep an eye out for this. Rolled a Flower Man last night (Floran is it?) , haven't died so haven't seen his spawn animation, he does have the appropriate name of "Meat Puncher" though.

Some of the homes people have built and posted on Reddit are incredible! To think of all those hours put in to build top tier epic buildings/ships etc, o0nly to have them wiped must be a right blow!
