Still using Moodle 1.9?

Having just been on 2 Moodle courses recently, I have been surprised at home many organisations are still using Moodle 1.9. In conversation with one attendee, the stumbling block appears to be the bespoke developments such as plugins and core hacks in Moodle 1.9 that may not be available in Moodle2+. That rang true as I had to develop some replacement functionality to facilitate 190 Moodle 1.9s to 2.4 over the summer. Is that a fair observation or are there other reasons why your institution is still using 1.9 and what are your thoughts?

We were using 1.9 up until September, and the reason was SMT. They wouldn't let us upgrade it. We were ready to do it in January and they wouldn't give us a day of downtime until after the exams were out of the way.

We're still on 1.9, reason being our LEA hosting is still on PHP 5.3 which won't support 2.x. We have flagged this up though! Main thing is just to keep patching with the latest security fixes - it may be old hat, but it still works nicely otherwise.

Schools in Lancs and Cumbria who get their Moodles via One Connect Ltd are still on 1.9. Where it isn't the LEA or SMT or external hosting that hold you back (eg with php requirement) I agree it is probably customisations done in house. Most popular Moodle add-ons have been upgraded to 2 over the last 3 years. I guess another stick to prod people with is that security support for 1.9 ends December 2013 (ie now) so you are on your own, basically.

Were still on 1.9 also, had the new version ready since march but we wanted to start from scratch and use the old one as an archive.

 

We also wanted a consistent house style for all the courses and managed properly this time.

Still on 1.9 here as we are LEA hosted and they do not seem to have any intention of upgrading us to 2.x
