Need help allowing Dameware to connect through ISA 2004

Hi All,

I have to configure ISA 2004 to allow County SIMS support to connect to our SIMS/SQL box [and also some admin workstations] by using Dameware.

I am a total novice with ISA and am a bit lost!

From what I can tell, Dameware uses port 6129 & possibly 6130.

Please can anyone help?

OK firstly, I'd be a bit dubious about allowing them to do this as and when they felt like it. I myself use dameware but they can only connect whilst I'm sat there watching the screen and accepting the connection.

 

Anyway, onwards bound. It's been a while since I used ISA but you need to setup an inbound (and possibly outbound) rule on port 6129 only to your SIMS/SQL box and your admin PC's. If you know the source IP will never change you could specify that also. In part of the rule settings there is an RPC filter IIRC - you need to disable that filter on this rule only as dameware won't work otherwise.

GlennT, are you based in Somerset? If so, do you not have your ISA server set up the usual county way of 'single network card' with it acting as a proxy and the device NAT'ed to an external IP? Or do you have it set up in the real world way of 'external network - ISA - internal network'?

Localzuk, yes i am in Somerset and i have it set up in the "Real World Way".

TeddyKGB, I had set the rules as suggested but had not removed that filter so will check to see if that works and will let you all know!
