Cancelling Sky and apple TV alternatives

just looking for advice on this.

 

Am I correct that if we cancel our sky subscription:

1> all recordings and the ability to record will go

2> We will still be able to watch Free Channels through the box?

3> What happens with BtSport ?

4> What happens with PremierSport?

 

Basically we are paying full wack and I only really watch the rugby on it, and ice hockey on premierSports.

Most of the other viewing is via netflix

 

We have borrowed an Apple TV also for the bedroom, just to watch netflix on... this has to go back now and I have been looking at

Roku and WD media player and google chromecast.

just wondered if any have had experience with any of these?

Basically i think they all do Netflix i do like the look of the Roku, but not keen on having to give them creditcard details to create an account.

just wondered if any of them offer iplayer, itvplayer, 4OD or that?

People pay for NHL on Premier? Thats madness. I have a little think through VLC that works a treat but if you want it legally Gamecenter is a steal for £60. All the games (bar a few blackouts which can be sorted) live plus replays/highlights of every game, the whole works.

Been having a look at xbmc looks like an option.

 

Watching YouTube videos they recommend some add ons for streaming tv and movies how legit are they?

I have a Roku box just to watch Netflix on. Works a treat and is wireless connection to my network. I opted for the cheaper version without the USB support. Was a bit surprised with the online registration but you can set it up so that it asks for authentication before purchasing. This was for things like the games that they have on their. I use mine mainly for Netflix but also a bit of iPlayer. There are hundreds of channels on there but not sure what they are or how good they are as I'm only interested in the ones I have mentioned.

 

I got this over Apple TV as I don't have any videos in my iTunes library and was a cheaper alternative. Got mine for £49.99 from PC World. The only time I have purchased anything from them lol.
