Hi there,

We have a few RM servers where the warranties are are coming up for renewal and at a cost of around £600+ vat per server which I think is expensive. I wanted to ask whether anyone has their warranties covered by someone else other than RM?

Please let me know.

Thanks

Had the warranty come through for one of my primary school's RM server (which no longer runs an RM network).

The answer was a straight "hell no" as it was far, far more than the cost of replacing any single failed part and the relevant labour. It wasn't even worth considering for data restoration.

Some of my servers where dell r200 coming up for renewal and I could get a whole server for the cost of the warranty. I am very unsure of extended warranties as they often cost more than having a proper renewal program or buying a couple of spare machines.

You could be surprised - third party warranty's (especially on dell kit) are pretty good. Also they start the 4 hour clock when you call then not when they acknowledge a fault.

our LEA use computacenter to cover the hardware on our HP Server that they supply, their over their initial warranty period here with us and touch wood we havent ever had a problem with them ourselves.

Who do you recommend? In the market for this myself too....

I'd be interested in this too. We extended the warranty on our old P2000 to give us some breathing space before we migrated to our new SAN. IIRC HP stop warranty coverage after a certain period on some products (like SANS).

We tend to use 2 companies - Comms-care (although these are channel only i think) and Upgrade.co.uk will sell directly, I only know the companies but I don't have much dealing with them - the other guys in the office tend to sort all that out. I'm just the techie!

I'm in the same position, Millgate have provided a very good alternative quote to the manufacturer, so I'd suggest giving them a call.

Do you use any of the RM CCx systems? If so, the warranty includes data restoration on the higher packages. I'm not sure any 3rd party out there would be able to re-install CCx if it came to it?
