Had a play with the Envy today. Seems like a nice bit of kit. Reviews said there is a bit of flex in the centre of the keyboard which there does seem to be. Apart from thinking for the price they could've tried a bit harder, I don't see that being a huge problem.

 

It's a bit weighty, but for me it's pretty much a desktop replacement I guess so not an issue either.

 

I think what it comes down to is that I'm tight and the price tag scares me lol!

Haswells seem to have HD 4000's....

 

Those should be Ivy Bridge, Haswell comes with a newer range of GPUs. The model names don't tell the whole story, but give a good idea of performance.

My son ended up buying a PC because he wanted something good enough to play games on it. He paid £500 for his own-specified tower as against about £900 for a laptop that would do the same thing. He bought a cheap laptop or tablet or something to use to browse the internet and facebook etc. Combined cost was still less than the laptop

That looks rather a lot like the rebadged Clevo that sits on my desk at work. In terms of build quality, they're adequate. It's relatively light and the keyboard isn't the worst that I've seen on a laptop. The touchpad is pants but then I've never seen on on a non-mac which isn't. They don't say what the resolution of the screen is but with a 740m gpu and at £569 I'd put money on it being 1366x768. However Clevo do offer a 1080p screen as an option so it might be better than that.

 

That's the hardware, I've not heard of the oem so I don't know what kind of service you'd get from them if it went wrong and in my experience the less said about ebuyer's after sales, the better.
