Marshall_IT Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 For those of us not off this coming week what have you all got planned? I've got a very busy week ahead of me. I'm installing a new virtual host, upgrading my hyper-v cluster from 2008 to 2012. Reconfiguring my auto vlan switches and adding a new 10Gb link. Migrating ISP from county to private, changing from county controlled filter/firewall to self managed. Preparing final steps for full staff and student email migration from county to office 365. I'm sure I'm forgetting something too... I'll remember in the cold light of Monday morning. So how about you?
featured_spectre Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 Doing video conversions from MP4 to AVI, burning to disk, formatting camera...rinse and repeat x5 for neighbour (getting a bottle of whiskey and cakes in return)
Marshall_IT Posted October 26, 2013 Author Posted October 26, 2013 Doing video conversions from MP4 to AVI, burning to disk, formatting camera...rinse and repeat x5 for neighbour (getting a bottle of whiskey and cakes in return) Mmm whiskey, I might pour myself a small glass later.
rad Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 Installing 60 graphics cards and DVi cables, setting up 15 iMacs and err whatever else is needed in new building we get next week!
6Foot2 Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 We have a busy half term break lined up. Some of the work: Rework an existing computer room expanding provision from 17 to 31 stations [taking out current PCs and deploying new] Re-deploy some of the stations removed from room as stated above. Making good in rooms where vandalism has degraded IT provision significantly. Any onther work we might be able to fit into the break.
dhicks Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 For those of us not off this coming week what have you all got planned? Upgrades to storage infrastructure - moving VMs to new faster RAID arrays, plus putting up shelves.
speckytecky Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 (edited) As budgets are non existent extending the lives of 2 computer rooms which have dear old Fujitsu Esprimo 3500 s running XP by spring cleaning them physically then upgrading the OS to Windows 7 on them and any other machines in the school running XP. Two new classrooms to sort out. Sort out mail accounts. Put 3 new Macs on the system for our Art Dept. Maybe try and install Server 2012 on our old Dell 680 which had Server 2003 on running SIMS last so I can have a tinker with moodle. I have never had a go at installing a server OS or been anywhere near moodle before so I'll be visiting Edugeek a heap methinks searching for advice on the latter optional tasks if I get round to it. mattianuk Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Trying to expand space in our storage servers for shares, installing smoothwall and trying to get down to 0 tickets after a manic first half term.
mdench Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 fairly quiet half term hopefully ( tho now i have said that something is bound to break) Just got a few pcs to put in and re install our backup server. Been in the last two days re configuring all the permissions on our file cluster in time with some virtual cluster maintenance. Then reduce our helpdesk to 0 tickets hopefully and tidy our office and server room.

Pretty much same as desktop OS, just a few different options when installing. Cannot comment for 2012 as never installed it but you will be fine is you can install a desktop OS. 1
