I did my degree in programming, but have not done anything for ages. But managed to pick it up from the different tutorials on the net. It's not that difficult.

samba_man Posted October 17, 2013 Author Posted October 17, 2013 Thanks for the advice, turns out that the training provider we have the credits with doesn't offer the course even though they list it on their website! The trouble with the Introduction to CS and programming course is that I have too many other commitments to be able to regularly dedicate time, still it's an option I didn't think of so thanks for that. I like the look of that Think Python site. I'll give it a go.

CAM Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Have you asked your IT department what language they will teach? Mine is starting a computing course next year and the HOD mentioned they are thinking of doing Python. Learning means they have someone to bounce ideas off.

There is already a GCSE computing course, I don't know if/when you *have* to deliver it. You certainly don't need to choose python, but many schools have done (ours included) because it is a rich but very easy to use language and is perfect for beginners. There is lots of free online help as wells as IDE's etc available. 1
