Dos_Box Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 This just coming in from a few sources including the BBC: BBC News - Tesco to launch tablet computer I can't find any specs yet, but it seems that Tesco may be aiming for the Christmas market early with a price-point around £100. I'd be very surprised if they have got a spec any better than those no-name tablets already dominating Amazon for slightly less though. Will keep you posted!
Dos_Box Posted September 23, 2013 Author Posted September 23, 2013 (edited) OK, Tesco have a press release here: Tesco PLC - News - News releases - Tesco launches 7 inch Hudl tablet (23 September, 2013) And the specs are as follows: Android 4.4.2 Quad core 1.5Ghz CPU (type not given) 7" 1440x900 capacative screen 16GB Onboard storage + MicroSD slot 9hrs Battery life (dependent on user activity) Micro HDMI Bluetooth 4 GPS (handy for car use!) Dual-band wi-fi Play store Scratch resistant screen (does not say Gorilla Glass, so we'll wait and see what users say!) Price £119 On sale as of the 30th September TBH, it's not a bad spec at all, especially as it has GPS. My only niggle - looking at the pics of it so far - is that whilst it is a 7" device, the screen surround is rather large making it harder to fit in a car phone holder. Tesco say that they can make profit on this but I think its more of a way to get their other services easily accessible and in the hands of the consumer. Eg there are links to Online Shopping and Blinkbox, I would expect to see links to Tesco Finance and that kind of thing as well.

If they only make a few quid on this, but it opens up online shopping, they'll get their profit in other avenues. Good call I think!

Tesco Hudl review: Can a supermarket chain put out a decent tablet? « Engadget ... when you begin to use it, something strange begins to happen. Despite all of its failings, this meager slate became our go-to piece of hardware for responding to emails and browsing Twitter. We had it playing movies on Netflix while we worked, and we rocked out to a playlist while cooking dinner. While its original purpose was to coax technophobes into the future, the Hudl is easy to use and, dare we say it, charming enough, that it might win over even the most hardened of gadget snobs. If you're a Tesco shopper and you've got Clubcard points that'll let you purchase this for £60, then it's a no-brainer. Buy this device. Go home and enjoy it. If you have no choice but to pay the full £120 price, however, then the Kindle Fire HD becomes the more persuasive option. Considering how many people in the UK don't have a tablet, it's easy to see why high-street shops are so keen to sell their own (rebranded) tablets. The supermarket giant also noted its intentions to launch a successor model later this year, according to plans in its 'preliminary result 2013/14' financial report.
