Iris Connect.....

Quick question...

 

We have an Iris Connect camera in school, it works perfectly. The question I have is how do your staff use it? Ie do they record a whole class lesson of themselves teaching or do they record individual groups of kids within the class??? I have a feeling the second option if we did it could put us in a very dodgy situation. As we will have recorded children explicitly. I am trying to gauge your opinions as I want to give the right advise.

We have the iRIS Connect camera as well as the discovery camera.

 

It's used quite rarely but when it is it's used to film the whole class either over the whole lesson or just a certain part, but at the moment it has always been the teacher teaching a whole class not just a certain group.

 

One teacher used the Discovery camera, which is basically an iPod Touch, to film a class for purposes of classroom safety.

So long as the parents have signed an agreement for there children to be filmed I can't see the issue. We have had the IRIS cameras pointed at certain students before and but support have recorded it and passed it straight on to a senior member of staff to view. The only time it will get messy is if you haven't got the parents permission to film in school.

Can i ask what upload times people get. We are uploading a one hour lesson 400mb-600mb and have reports of one and half hour upload times.

The upload times are obviously dependent on your upload speed. Our upload speed is about 15mb and using the ipod (discover kit) it took about 30 mins... but this was a video that was 1.8Gb.

 

We have been finding the upload from the coffee pot camera a bit quicker and yes the videos are about 500mb. I have found the uploader via the site sometimes crashes out and have to start the process again.. which can be rather annoying.

I think the uploads are queued also, so if other schools are sending videos at the same time, then these will also take longer.

 

Generally via our discover kit, a 1.4gig file is around 20 mins.

Just an update... 151mb file uploaded in 6 mins over a line with 15Mb upload speed. The video is about 25 mins long. Edited January 27, 2014 by timbo343

Since I posted above, we've had major issues uploading videos from our discovery kit. Some go through fine, others seem to fail and we have to press the retry button. Others appear to upload more than the actual file size and therefore fail too.

 

Iris have acknowledged both issues. We are having to manually get the footage off the iPads and upload them via the website which is a bit of an inconveniance.
