Unbelievable... thing is, I can't think of a way they can fix it without taking the curve out of the glass, which would be a major overhaul at this point...

Better to just fit it with a series of mirrors and use it to provide free sun tans to Essex (though I suspect the economy might collapse with all those dried up sales of fake tan and tanning beds)

I wonder if there's any way to make glass that absorbs some of the sun's rays and somehow makes energy..?

Yes, there is already. I was watching Grand Designs a while ago. The glass absorbs during the day and expels the heat during the evening.

'The new building was designed by Uruguayan-born architect Rafael Vinoly, who reportedly had similar problems with the Vdara Hotel in Las Vegas.'

Not getting him to design my conservatory.

So basically, no need for central heating? lol

It's so sunny people are getting sun tans while standing outside Maplin. :)

Why are people standing right in the middle of the beam though? Especially the guy who looks like he's (unsurprisingly) struggling to read his phone's screen. There's loads of more shaded areas around them!

They're working on their tan.

Better[citation needed] and cheaper than a sunbed.

I have to say, I think this bit is priceless.

"This solution should minimise the impact on the local area over the next two to three weeks, after which time the phenomenon is expected to have disappeared," they said in a statement, blaming the problem on "the current elevation of the sun in the sky" – rather than the design of their building.

So for the long-term are they planning to fix the elevation of the sun in the sky?

Looking forward to the repeat stories next year.

Simple. We are not due for another good summer until 2024.
