My thoughts are also with everyone involved at this school.

Little Miss had enough problems when her school was gutted by fire. This looks like it could be worse.

Our network guys have just done an install there, he said the place was a right off. Heart goes out to rebuilding the system.

There is some idiots knocking around.

That must be DREADFUL. Is it looking like nobody was hurt though? Hopefully not, though what a horrible thing.

I'll bet the five individuals, if found guilty, will get a stern talking to - possibly even told they're naughty.

Such a horrible thing to happen especially two days before the start of a new term, apparently according to the Fire & Rescue service no one was injured, which is always a good thing. What goes through someone's mind when they do something like that I don't know, know.

Looking at the Lancashire Fire & Rescue Twitter the majority of the school just looks like a burnt out shell. I work at a high school down the road and can only hope that the pupils can be catered for either through the creation of a temporary school or at other schools.

I don't get this kind of Crime it stupid crime for knuckle dragging idiots. Criminal damage is a stupid crime they chose to steal form the kid at that school that want to learn and not end up in the gutter with a bullet hole through their heads? It does raise the question should schools have sprinkler systems installed?

Its heart breaking! I live 2 minutes away near Worden Park and we had to have all our windows shut all night as the smell was awful!! you could see the smoke out of our windows At least no one as hurt! my thoughts go out to all who work there!

From the news reports, it's just as well the school was empty, as it seems to have been made of seriously inappropriate materials. Which encapsulates the problem right across the estate - old buildings and cheap buildings and listed buildings...

Talked to one of the locals, apparently there had been fresh painting done. So all the fire doors and first floor windows were open to get rid of the smell. Additionally new insulation had been installed in the roof. Both of these caused the fire to spread much more rapidly than it otherwise would of.

He also pointed me to some Quadcopter footage on youtube.

I had a friend who was in attendance with the Salvation Army providing refreshments to Firefighters and managed to get a few photos here, it takes hold so quick looking at the images, never seen something develop quick for such a long time.

All what has been said above will have affected how quick it spread, fresh paint, new insulation, windows and doors open. The main thing is no one was hurt, 2 people have been caught, things could of been a lot worse.

It wasn't their fault, yerroner, they had a hard upbringing, so let 'em off.

What actually happens to school staff's jobs in a situation like this? Are they now unemployed or does "someone" continue to pay them some sort of retainer while the school is rebuilt so they don't have to hire all new staff as well?

Staff will be maintained, there will be some furious work going on and pupils will temporarily probably be sharing space with other organisations. the pupils still require 190days of lessons.

Work will take place to quickly bring all students and staff back together ( masses of temporary classrooms will already be on the agenda. )

All in all it will be a staged approach to minimise disruption and get back into a new building, but it wont hang arround.

We had our ould building flooded by a 1000 year flood in 2k5 which wiped out 90% of our ground floor facility ( probably 40% of our total teaching space. We had 70% students back in two days later and 100% within 7 days. but it was 9 months till we had finished and got sorted properly.

Cheers for the info, it's something I'd wondered for a while.

I doubt there'll be any pupils in at all in this case though...

Most schools will have disaster / business continuity plans to cover this, with the support of their insurers, and the LA too (even if no longer an LA school).

Often it is a phased approach to getting children back in, concentrating on exam / final years first.

Remember when my dad used to teach, he went through a similar thing in '95 when Crofton high was pretty much destroyed (History of the School) - not much IT to recover but we went to the other local schools begging old Geography books! Horrible thing to happen, and so difficult to recover from. The school I went to (outwood grange) also had a major fire - the remnant of which was a plexiglass "bubble" through which you walked to get between buildings. The idea being, if one building caught, the bubble would melt, and the fire couldn't spread. I presume it's still there...
