Aye, was rather hoping to be able to get it on a testbed on the 14th but clearly wasn't to be. Now there's another exams day looming, another day I don't really want to be touching Sims!

Thanks for the update, Phil. I understand your position and decision to delay the release.

The reason we're keen on getting our hands on 3.6 is the number of server migrations taking place during the holidays. We're having to leave old servers in place and running as we can't yet migrate SOLUS 3, which means extra work later on.

If you need any help with pre-release testing, you need only ask.

Please pass on our thanks to those tasked with getting SOLUS 3 back up and running after the server failures; it can't have been an easy week.

sorry folks - i have a quick question about SQL versions...

so - SIMS and FMS need to run on SQL 2012 by the summer next year, so I've heard - but what about Solus 3? Does that need to run on a seperate 2008 instance?

At the moment, SOLUS 3 doesn't run on SQL 2012. However, I don't know how much success people have had getting SOLUS to work via a different instance so far.

I'd suggest sticking with 2008 R2 for now. And switch to 2012 in the future.

OK, thanks a lot for the reply - do you need Solus to run on a seperate instance, or can it run on the same one as SIMS and FMS? Sorry for all the questions.

Ok, so the release notes have just come up (although they're dated yesterday? Nice try!)

They seem to read as if you must install Solus 3.5 beforehand.

Would anyone from Capita like to furnish us with the how-to on that, being on Server 2012? Any chance of the ISOs today?

there certainly isn't much in the release notes about installing it from scratch, or for that matter migrating an existing Solus 3 database from SQL 2008 to 2012...

I don't read it that way:

This release can be installed or used as an upgrade. When upgrading an existing installation, the SOLUS3 April 2013 release (version 3.5) or SOLUS3 April 2012 release (version 3.4.118) must already be installed.

I don't particularly understand all the migration of SIMS and other database targets in the Installation Guide, but then I'm not really back into Solus3 fuzzy logic at the moment...

The Solus3 database and Agent migration seems easy enough though (famous last words!)

OK, just got to section 6 of the installation guide- so basically in order to migrate it to SQL 2012 you have to reinstall it! Did read that correctly?

Pretty much as I read it, but atleast then you don't have to go and remove/reinstall all of the agents.

Actually that has raised another fairly big point which I've maybe skipped over - what happens with the Solus3 share, presumably that needs to be moved and recreated...
