Just delivered a DL360p Gen 8 - but no normal network ports - instead it has FlexibleLOM ports. Anyone know how the hell I can convert this or purchase something so they are normal LAN connections ?

I take it that second one would fit my server ? Just checked and they look like the same bus etc. Never touched these before until now....

They'd all fit - it depends which type of connection you want, 10GbE SFP+, 1GbE or FibreChannel.

I'd guess you'll want normal 1GbE so the 2nd one would be right.

I think they all fit the Gen8s so I should be ok. 1GB will be fine - just getting a quote now. And with 4 of them I should be able to dedicate them to a VM each. Thought I was going mad when I could only find the ILO port !!

Yes you require to either buy a 1gb pci card (the second link) or 10gb gbics for the built in slots on the mobo (the first link)

That's not right. HP have made a new on-board port which is designed specifically for replacing "onboard" ports. It isn't a standard PCI card. The idea being that rather than being stuck with the ports that come with your server, and to stop HP having to make different motherboards, you just swap the ports.

Yes but to get 1gb I beleive you need a secondary 1gb pci card as they don't make 1gb gbics for the onboard slots?

Yeah, in effect it is a remodelled pci-e card.

HP are effectively saying here's the server but instead of giving everyone 4x1Gb/s copper ports like we've always done for them to go and buy another card if they want fibre or whatever we'll just put in a slot and let you put whatever you want in it.

In some cases, you go and put the 4x1Gb/s card in you'd have had anyway but it's more flexible sure.

You can still buy the DL360 Gen8s with the 4x1gb ports instead of the flexloms...

The 4 port arrived this morning - fitted in seconds. Now just need to get ESXi on it....wish me luck. Have not done any VM stuff for at least a year.

It'll be fine - it's like riding a bike ;-)

Installing on an SD?

NO SD option on that server, will try a USB stick perhaps.....? If not, it will have to go straight onto the HDs.

The DL360 Gen8s we've bought recently have the SD slot? next to the PCI riser.

Not on mine - must have been an option.2013-08-13 16.50.54.jpg

I'll let you know how I get on getting it on a USB stick.

Won't be for another week or so - got a week off first. First week for 2013 !! Hooray !!!

I would be very surprised if it doesn't have a SD slot i have seen it either next to PCI riser to behind the PSU's.

With regards to come with 4 x 1Gb connections I think its the dl360e's which come with that whereas dl360p's come with the new card. Although it might be some models which come with 4 x 1gb.

They do have an SD Slot as we were a bit eek! as we needed it to, its behind the PSUs on the P model and where the FlexLOM card is on the E's :) So lots of SD goodness for everyone :)

I'll have a look tomorrow and will let you know. If it does that would be great. Anyone got these running ESXi just out of interest ?

Yup. You get the HP esxi image to put on them?

Thanks, did not know there was a custom ESXI HP image - just checking it out now.

Yup I installed 6 in the last few weeks, lovely machines. The HP ESXI image gives you greater ability to monitor hardware from ESXI (its almost the same as installing Standard ESXI and the HP offline bundle).
