Ive already washed and T cut my car last week and am not sure but I only noticed them after taking my car to a garage a few months back after they sprayed and sorted my rear bumper out. Although I honestly cant recall if they were there prior to the work being done or if its me with the hot weather however I've used my car inc boot etc and there aren't any other marks like that on the boot

Long story short

1.) what can I do to get rid of the marks?

2.) would it be worth while asking the garage or just sort it out myself ?

Thanks

That's weird finger marks. Tcut should take the top layer off so is it under the lacquer

Finger print yourself and see if its your print

If you use T-Cut, use the metallic version. It's not as harsh, and just works on the lacquer rather than cutting through it.

Got this one ( see attached image )

Presume that's not the metallic one

That is suncream.

You will probably find that the marks belong to you or your nearest and dearest.

You will also have sod all chance of them ever going fully.

The particle size of suncream gets between the paint polymers.

Tcut and all the rest do make a difference for a while and with repeated effort you may get somewhere eventually.

Sorry to bear bad news.

I haven't had any issues cleaning things with IPA in the past (although I mainly use it on computers). It might be worth putting a small amount on a cotton bud to start with. :)

Depending on when the paint was done, (older than 5 years old) IPA will ruin the paintwork laquer and make it bubble up, ruining the coat. Not worth doing that unless you plan to respray the section after. Learnt from experience on this one.

- tried IPA on a small finger print and didn't make any difference. If it does that will have to get it re done. Arrgghhh. 2001 car so yeah older than 5 years

That Micro Prime stuff sounds like it might do the job, although it's difficult to know for sure.

Supernatural Micro Prime contains ultra-fine microabrasives to gently clean and prepare paint, removing fine swirls and contaminants

Righty, depending on how much time you have, you can do the following.

G3 from halfords WILL remove the stain, just depends on time you spend, anywhere up from 2 hours will about do it. If you don't have the patience, but have some money spare (and a fair amount) some Autoglym Intensive Tar Remover will do it (be warned, this stuff can burn your skin but will remove the stain), or some of This stuff will work too

Mechanic friend had a bottle of old tcut which got rid of it and used my newer t cut to get the colour back up for now as can't afford anything else at the min

Ha, I have those all over the car. The most annoying ones were actually in the lexan headlamp lenses! It is indeed suncream. I dealt with the headlights by using a machine polisher and cutting compound - the lenses were faded badly anyway. Not any more! :)
