Capacitor Info

Morning

 

I have a graphics card with a bust capacitor and i need to replace it, but am unsure as to what capacitor I require.

 

On the top of it it says:

 

5KR33

270

16V

 

it came from a Asus HD Radeon 512mb Silent.

 

Hopefully i've managed to attach a photo of it

anything on the side? I guess from that picture would be a 270 µF 16volt Cap

 

EDIT: electrolytic! cap remember the polarity..

 

EDITX2: the cap doesn't look burst how did you determine it's failed? I have a posh multi-meter with a cap tester on it that can tell me it's capacity. Otherwise I'd test resistance and watch it climb but that would only tell me that it was not ruined not underperforming.

thanks, no nothing on the side. - i take it the 5KR33 doesn't have any bearing on it?

 

it took a knock and has fallen off and + and - prongs came out of the capacitor.

I'm with @chazzy2501 - 270 @ 16v by the looks of it... only way to be certain would be to test the capacitance with a multimeter - even though the legs have broken off you should still be able to see the ends of them enough to make contact.

 

Failing that, pick up a pack of these and try one out (preferably testing the card afterwards on an old/unwanted mobo first, just in case!):

EDIT: although they're a bit dearer, I'd go for the Nichicon for the longer lifespan - don't want to shove in a cheap one only to have to replace it in a couple of months time

So soldered on another capacitor, a 220 and higher voltage but it works fine.
