Jollity Posted July 15, 2014 Posted July 15, 2014 It is possible the situation has changed since I did my migration, but here's how it worked then. EasyMail stores sent mail in a folder called "outbox", this is copied to the "outbox" folder in Office 365 by the migration. However in Outlook/Exchange/Office 365, the "outbox" folder is a special folder used for items being sent to the mail server, and so it is hidden from view in the normal Office 365 mail web page. That is, all the email is there, just in a folder you cannot see! I expect the reason you are seeing the sent items in the inbox is because you have the conversation view turned on, which integrates your replies to an email conversation with the emails they sent regardless of which folder the emails are in. You can view the hidden "outbox" folder by viewing the "light" version of the outlook web page. Get to this by logging in then pasting the following link into your address bar: https://outlook.office365.com/owa/?layout=light You should see an outbox link in the list of folders on the left hand side. You can select any mail left there and move them into sent items. This may be rather laborious with a large number of accounts. I wrote a program that did this move automatically using EWS, but Microsoft changed things and broke the program, and I was not able to get it working again. 1
witch Posted July 15, 2014 Author Posted July 15, 2014 (edited) I think it must have changed thought because when I log on to the "light" version, the outbox is still empty If I send an email it goes into sent items, which is also empty before that That's a much better view though than the normal one - might change my shortcut to that, thanks Edited July 15, 2014 by witch
Jollity Posted July 15, 2014 Posted July 15, 2014 Do your sent items appear in the inbox in the light view? That does not have conversation view, so if they are still in the inbox there then that actually is the folder where they have been put.
witch Posted July 15, 2014 Author Posted July 15, 2014 Cant tell as I have already moved them all into the sent items in the original view in my main email account The other one I rarely use but I know I have sent the odd thing from it
Jollity Posted July 15, 2014 Posted July 15, 2014 The other one I rarely use but I know I have sent the odd thing from it And in that account the sent emails appear in the inbox in light view?
witch Posted July 16, 2014 Author Posted July 16, 2014 Not that I am aware - other than they havent acknowledged my change request!
witch Posted July 16, 2014 Author Posted July 16, 2014 My sent items are in the inbox in the light view as well, sadly
gtg93 Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Did you do the migration as below? "To add multiple users onto Office 365 where AD sync is not setup: Fill out the CSV attached called "Import Users". Only the Username and display name are required, although best to fill out first name and last name too. The username must include the domain that is listed in office365 (and the one you plan to use) at the end, for example @school.org.uk otherwise it will fail with the error: "the user name is not valid. you can only use letters and numbers. no spaces." Login to outlook.office365.com as admin. Go to "Admin" and "Office 365". Go to "Setup" and "Start" the "quick start" setup. Follow the wizard from here. The username in the earlier CSV must include the domain that is listed in office365 (and the one you plan to use) at the end, for example @school.org.uk otherwise it will fail with the error: "the user name is not valid. you can only use letters and numbers. no spaces." If you use a domain that hasn't yet been added and verified in office365 it will not work, giving the error "The user name isn't valid or the domain doesn't exist." Template CSV to import users with is attached. ________________________________________________ To import a users mailbox from another provider: You must have already added the user(s) whos mailbox ou wish to import to office 365 before proceeding with this, else it will fail. Fill out the CSV attached called "Import from IMAP" as descirbed in the CSV. login to outlook.office365.com. Go to "Recipients" and "Mailboxes" - Find the account you want to import a mailbox to and edit. In edit, go to "Mailbox Delegation" and add the main admin account to the "Send As" and the "Full Access" box. Then, go to "Recipients" and "Migration" then "+" and "Migration to Exchange online". Follow the steps in the wizard, putting in the information as below when required. RM IMAP Details: imap.easymail.ifl.net Port 143 Basic Authentication No SSL/TLS Once the synch is finished, go to outlook.office365.com and login as the user to ensure all the emails have synched successfully. Once complete, repeat the first step removing the "Send As" and "Full Access" permissions for the admin account. Template CSV for importing users is attached (will need .doc extension removing)." ?? I'm sure we I've not had this issue when migrating from easymail, and this is how I did it.Import from IMAP.csv.docImport Users.csv.doc 1
witch Posted July 16, 2014 Author Posted July 16, 2014 I have migrated it fine, thanks, although the RM details are not the ones I was told to use by either RM or indeed Microsoft. The mx records have now been changed and email is going to Office 365 - yay! How I am going to stop them trying to use easymail is beyond me though. SWGfL didnt bother to do the CNAME records so I will have to ask them to sort that or autodiscover wont work for Outlook and Lync
edutech4schools Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 @witch if swgfl do not change the mx records you will not get mail from other easymail users / schools as it gets sent to the schools old easymail server directly.
edutech4schools Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 @with the amount of times I have done this migration and always put in big red text ' please remove the easymail mx records for this change request' and they never get it correct. they really are useless at reading change requests.
witch Posted July 16, 2014 Author Posted July 16, 2014 They HAVE changed the mx records and all is well on that front but autodiscover isn't sorted which makes using Outlook a pain.

witch Posted July 16, 2014 Author Posted July 16, 2014 Can you not disable their accounts on that and block the URL in school? No, because they need to look back at their easymail to make sure all is well and also they need to export their contacts. I will disable it but we are so close to the end of term that I am not sure they are all going to get around to it so it might have to be left over the holidays.
snagrat Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 I get the EasyMail URL to redirect to Office 365 login and allow access to EasyMail via oldmail.domain.sch.uk
witch Posted July 16, 2014 Author Posted July 16, 2014 I get the EasyMail URL to redirect to Office 365 login and allow access to EasyMail via oldmail.domain.sch.uk That's a good idea but it won't help them at home. The contacts migration has been a laugh as well. First the option to export contacts wasnt there at all - after lots of experimentation it turns out that the accounts have to be set on Custom Settings and Advanced. THEN the contacts imported but the email addresses didnt - this is because Office 365 is looking for E-mail Address and Easymail had it as Home EMail. Does this madness ever end... I am going to rename the staff front page "old email" so they might remember. At home though, I bet they forget and if you try and send an email from Easymail it doesn't give you any sort of error message *sigh
speckytecky Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 My oh my, you are having a time of it. With bought in help, I'm about to start ours this week. I hope that by migrating the daily multi moan of "I can't send my Easymail messages, when I'm at home" gets sorted out. It does doesn't it?

Ohhh - tell me how much it is costing so I can tell my boss Let's hope they have moved from easymail before - there are some funny quirks to it. Why do your lot think they can't send easymail from home then?
Phildw Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 So I am currently investigating migrating to Office 365 from Easymail and have been reading this thread over the last few days - it has been very helpful. Big thanks to @plexer and @Boredguy for all your effort which has helped steer me along the right path also. Hope you have it all up and running now @witch!
witch Posted February 5, 2015 Author Posted February 5, 2015 Yes, I do - we didn't do single sign on AD integration-type stuff so possibly a bit easier. Calendars running, booking, email, attachments all present and correct

witch Posted February 5, 2015 Author Posted February 5, 2015 Well, one or two. My biggest piece of advice is to convince the HT that not all accounts need migrating - it is up to the staff to rescue emails they might want before their current system goes down. My first school had close to 60 accounts to migrate and 15 of them were a complete PITA In my other school I only migrated 11 accounts (SLT, SEN, Pastoral, Admin and Finance) and only a couple caused any issues. I have set up users who cannot see our sites but only the onedrive where they can access cover info. Logging on is sometimes an issue -Office 365 just doesn't let people in for some reason at times 1
Phildw Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 Hey @witch, did you set up your users to use their 365 accounts in Outlook? Seem to be having issues with it
